Pwerus Kuintë (Poh-Weh-Russ Quin-Teh)
The powerful Quintet was instituted by King Myghchaell when he established Steeghan as one nation. His intent was simple: bring together a small group of men and women to help him rule the kingdom. His hopes we twofold. First, if he was off to war, then he was certain that the quintet would keep his kingdom organized until his return. Second, considering he was still a young man and his wives were younger, once he had his five sons, then he would be able to replace existing members by his blood.
As founding members of the Pwerus Kuintë the king chose Osanne, master artisan, whose house has been producing and selling some of the most relevant works of art throughout the land. Raulyn might be long in the tooth but no soldier, past or present, was the most awarded and shrewdest. His age might not tolerate the physical demands of soldiering but his experience was too valuable to set aside. Ymanya and her family had prospered and managed money so well and for so long that she opened one of the few money lending houses. Briceus for his part had gained a vast amount of money and power as a merchant. Within a handful of cycles, he went from nothing to one of the most powerful merchant houses in the land. The fifth and final position was granted to historian and explorer Imbart. His youthful appearance betrayed his knowledge and experience.
King Myghchaell's plans did not materialize the way he intended. For one thing, he died before he could form his own Pwerus Kuintë since he had one child, Malcolum. Also, it did not take long for the quintet to acclimate to such power and taking advantage of the heir's youth, they modified the clauses in their pact to keep the power for themselves, rendering the position of king mostly as a figurehead for their decisions.
Throughout the cycles, different families have come and gone from the Pwerus Kuintë. One thing remains till this day, if the crown announces a new decree that alleviates the workload of the rich and increases the yolk of the poor, you can rest assured the quintet is behind it.
