Calystis Organization in Stelair | World Anvil

Calystis

One of the few civilizations which survived the harsh conditions of the Desert Sea. Under the stringent rule of King Tinkurious, the kingdom was able to make a lasting mark on the world through its impressive yet bizarre architecture.

Structure

From the imagery and text left behind by the small kingdom, it seems as if they worshiped a some sort of god ruler. All commands came directly from this ruler, which the people were expected to obey to the letter. The only other people who seemed to hold authority were the royal guard, who themselves seemed to only be in charge of making sure the citizens were doing what was commanded.

Public Agenda

The Calystians' entire drive seemed to have been around building large and impressive structures. Monuments which would last the punishment of the Desert Sea. To this day they still stand, decorated in their strange markings and bizarre designs. Their most impressive construction was to be the city of Catalyst but was never seen by the wider world thanks to the Colossus Rampage. Its plans being the only thing that survived of it.

Assets

The small kingdom had some sort of standing army certainly, but exact numbers vary greatly. From 200-1000 soldiers. What it did have an abundance of was raw materials. The civilization situated itself around the Gluttons Maw, an immense sinkhole which is dozens of miles long in the northern part of the Desert Sea. Within this sinkhole is a treasure trove of metals and marble which the Calystians turned into a large mining operation. This allowed the kingdom to fund their numerous building projects.

History

Before the Kelsh Empire took sole claim to the Desert Sea a different group of nomad tribes banded together to forge a better life as the Calystis Tribe. Settling on the rim of Gluttons Maw and on the bank of the Quenching River the tribes flourished until eventually three towns had taken root. Merely 30 years after they merged together the tribe began to experience growing pains. The town of Northrim had begun its mining efforts into the maw years earlier with encouragements by the other towns. However, once their mining efforts began to destabilize the literal foundation of Southrim problems began to arise. Violence erupted between the two towns until eventually Northrim was ransacked and the entirety of Southrim was sent hurtling into the maw. After such disastrous events, a man named Benji Tinkurious from Riverside decided to ensure such an wouldn't happen again. Rallying support behind him he took control of the city council, naming himself lord of the town. At first the Calystians were wary of this sudden change, but Tinkurious' new laws kept things orderly and his mandatory town projects were keeping people focused. More and more of the people flocked to his rule until his commands went unquestioned. Soon Riverside became a city and the towns of Northrim and Southrim were rebuilt. King Tinkurious soon found himself in charge of a budding kingdom, eager to do whatever he asked of them. A society content to endlessly build in the desert sands. The kingdom continued to flourish up until it was obliterated during the Colossus Rampage. An unfortunate first casualty of the following chaos. Their monuments and idols still litter the area around the Glutton's Maw, but bulk of the civilization along the maw's rim was obliterated. Including the to there nearly finished new capital city, Catalyst.
