Welcome to Stora Dimhavet/Session Zero Prep
Hello Children of the Clouds
Welcome to The great cloud sea; the home of the Viking campaign! I am hella excited to get started, and can't wait to see what characters you'll bring with you to the world. I am totally willing to work with anything you guys have in mind, and the main thing to remember is that everything is allowed, create the character you want and the story will work with it. However there are a few things I would like you guys to keep in mind when coming up ideas for your characters, and perhaps you could even use these suggestions as prompts to help you build up your character. 1. One of the most important things in this world is the connection between humans and the spirits of nature. The people of the clouds believe that if something exists it is natural, as all unnatural things were wiped from existence long ago. To them nature is important, and one who has a close relationship with their nature will be blessed. I want you to consider what your character would honor most in nature or something they pursue that brings them satisfaction, and by extension consider the Andar (spirit) connected to that thing. Everything has an Andar, so if you have a passion outside of the ones listed just let me know and we can work on a new one. TLDR: to session zero bring ideas for a passion your character has and the spirit associated with it. Perhaps consider a small boon that spirit may bless you with. 2. Remember that magic does not exist and is unnatural. There will be no character classes at the beginning of the campaign; the characters in the beginning will just be normal people. Use this to consider what kind of life your character will lead and how it will affect their reactions to events. Though your character may not be a fighter or wizard, consider what role they may fill in battle without the powers of a class behind them. Your character may not have a real class, but I want you to Imagine what it would be if they did have one. Also in this world there are only humans, you won't be restrained to the human racial traits, but I will get into that a little more when it becomes relevant to the campaign. 3. The islands of Gykhavn (Golden Harbor) are isolated among themselves with seemingly nothing but fog surrounding them. The only outsiders that come are short staying traders that linger no longer than a month at most, and while the main island is large compared to a real island, you would be hard pressed to meet an unfamiliar face in your homeland. There are many families on Gykhavn, even a few larger factions such as the pit fighters and the scholars, but there is only one clan. Consider how this may influence your view on the wider world and remember that the clan and nature are all that you have. 4. Everyone is the clan is different but remember that everyone needs friends. Consider the connections you could have with others and at session zero think about how you can build up histories with the other player characters. 5. You have any kind of personality you wish, whether it be the doom and gloom of a death spirit follower or the glee of someone obsessed with the spirit of joy itself but remember your roots and try to create a character with a vested interest in the good of the clan and your fellow cloud folk. 6. I want everyone to feel like they make a difference. I want you to be influential in your respective field, you can choose how that happens, but get behind that passion I mentioned before and apply it to your life in the clan. If there is more I can think of I will let you guys know, but for now just bring some thoughts to session zero and feel free to read my expanding list of articles for inspiration. I would seriously suggest the article on the Livets Andar as it is a major point in the life of all the Cloud People. Let me know if you have any questions!Remove these ads.
