Azarketi

Aquatic humanoids, the Azarketi, also known as Neptunians, are a race of sea dwellers descended from the lost Azlanti people. They have a long and troubled history, as they were originally Human slaves that were bred with the Azlanti to create a servant race capable of living underwater with their masters.   Like the Azlanti, the Azarketi dwelt beneath the waves during the Dragons Wars, not involving themselves in the blood shed beyond defending their underwater kingdoms and cities. After the Azlanti were wiped out by a plague engineered by the Dragon Malificus Plaguecaller, which the Azarketi were seemingly immune to, they have adopted the culture of their previous masters and still live mostly isolationist lives in the oceans.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Azarketi share their base form with most other humanoids, though they also possess gills.

Biological Traits

Azarketi live to around one hundred and fifty years, weigh around eighty to one hundred kilograms, and possess a set of three gills with which to breath water as well as webbed hands and feet.

Genetics and Reproduction

Azarketi have a strange reproductive cycle. A female will be impregnated with dozens of eggs, which she will carry inside her until one or more hatch after about two months, at which point the hatchlings will devour the other eggs and hatchlings until only one is left. This single remaining hatchling will then be born in a live birth at four months.

Growth Rate & Stages

Azarketi grow at a similar rate to Humans, reaching maturity at around twenty years, but can live for up to one hundred and fifty years.

Ecology and Habitats

Azarketi live under the seas of Strathnora in sprawling underwater cities often built around natural treasures.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Azarketi live on a diet of sea plants, such as kelp, and fish, seldom cooking them except in rare cases.

Behaviour

Azarketi are a tight knit community, fighting together to protect the ocean and their homes.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Azarketi have no real social structure, as they are descended from slaves and have lost most of the history of their Azlanti forebears. As such, they tend to be communal in nature, protecting each other as they try to uncover and discover more about their lost heritage.

Facial characteristics

Human like faces, though they can have glowing eyes and sharp teeth.

Naming Traditions

The Azarketis will usually take names relevant to nautical, weather, or geographical locations important to their family. This results in many having names such as Aft, Aliz, Cascade, Delta, Harbor, Ilani, Inkua, Jib, Lagoon, Lobay, Marine, Tidal, Windward, and Zarket.

Courtship Ideals

An Azarketi male will present a female with the largest, roundest and shiniest pearl he can find or grow, the size and luster said to represent his wealth and strength to her. If the female accepts, they will mate, and the pair will part ways. The female will add the pearl to a necklace she wears, the more and larger the pearls on it indicating that she is more desirable as a mate.

Relationship Ideals

Azarketi do not mate for life, nor do they have long lasting relationships, with the male often leaving shortly after the female has become pregnant.

Average Technological Level

Azarketi have low levels of technology, as they do not understand many of the Azlanti devices that run their underwater cities.

Major Language Groups and Dialects

Common, Aghollthu

Common Dress Code

Azarketi will adorn themselves in beautiful shells and pieces of coral, covering only what is absolutely necessary in fabrics woven from sea plants.

Culture and Cultural Heritage

Azarketi gain most of their cultural heritage from their Azlanti ancestors, though little is known of the lost race.   As such, Azarketi tend to live in small communities or families that know and trust one another. The only known exception of this is in the Azlanti city of Neptunia, where it is said hundreds of Azarketi dwell together in relative harmony.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Azarketi are an isolationist species, preferring to stay in the oceans than venture out into the surface world. However, so coastal settlements are known to trade and ally with surface settlements, exchanging the riches of the oceans for interesting items or baubles from the surface.
