Orbital Ballistic Rods [OBR]

The OBR is a kinetic bombardment system that damages areas with the use of orbital strikes from an inert projectile. Much of the projectile's damage comes from the kinetic energy it gains while plummeting from orbit at high speeds. The rod itself is 6.4 meters long and 0.40 meters in diameter, equipped with a guidance computer system at its back and with fins for navigation and direction.
In orbit, the rod accelerates at over Mach 10, waiting for deployment. After a coordinate is received and permission granted, the rod deploys toward the site of bombardment, guided by the attached computer system. Within the atmosphere, the rod slows down from its initial velocity considerably, although damage will still be devastating, and a set of back-up thrusters can be activated to increase damage. As it zeros in on its target, the rods can either be "pin shot", or "scatter shot". If pin shot, the rod will directly intercept its target, dealing concentrated damage to the location, and is even capable of piercing nuclear bomb shelters. If scattered, the rod will expand and separate into several smaller rods, all of which hit the target's general area, dealing damage to a large area and creating a blast comparable to that of a nuclear warhead.
