Daemogoth

Description

Slipping through the darkest corners of the world, daemogoths are powerful fiendish creatures that feed on misery and other negative emotions. Some sages refer to daemogoths as tear lickers, owing to the fiends’ tendency to lurk near battlefields and other sites of great tragedy to consume the anguish saturating the area.
Daemogoths are creatures of forbidden knowledge and magic, all fueled by their consumption of anguish. They trade magical influence over the lives and minds of others to ambitious mortals in exchange for the mortal’s agony.
Daemogoths are alien-looking in the extreme. Their eyes are insectile or smooth and bulbous like gleaming jewels, and they have five arms. They typically wear long robes, which drape low over their forms, and they sport a halo of horns, antlers, or floating stones or crystals.
Snarl-Born: Daemogoth are born not of biology nor of ritual, but within magical maesltroms known as Snarls. Specifically through snarls composed primarily of Necrotic energy, oft drawn from the plane of Shadowfell, and Chaotic energy, generated in abundance in the Abyss. If these two energies filter through the weave in the material plane and collide, forming into an onyx and carmine Snarl, there comes a possibility of these magic fonts consuming one another and birthing a Daemogoth.
Unnatural Lifespans: Daemogoth are ageless, they are born as adults and do not grow old or weary over time. Instead Daemogoth change as they consume. Eventually over centuries potentially consuming enough anguish to mutate into Daemogoth Titans, Gargantuan fiends capable of levelling cities and consuming the dread of nations.
Patient Plotters: Daemogoth, while related to the bloodthirsy agents of pure chaos of the Abyss, are intelligent and purposeful entities. Not only capable of speech and tactical planning, but in fact favour scheming and manipulation to farm dread over generations. Once powerful enough, Daemogoth can even bestow others with fiendish powers, often making use of warlock pacts to protect themselves from heroic adventurers and prying eyes.
