Aldanbeld

Aldanbeld, "Old Anvil," is Meyjakh Hwell's capital city, as well as Orcli's dwarvish capital.  The center of the dwarvish city is the geographical center of Meyakh. The city has an expansive reach underground and inside the island's mountains.   Aldanbeld has an above-ground presence of impressive, stone buildings which are covered in snow like the surrounding mountains, adorned with bronze furnishings and roof tiles.  The towers act as ventilation, so there is always white-colored cloud-like steam pouring from the towers' windows and chimneys.     The city continues underground, with several entrances at the base of the mountain, leading to an elevator-like system that is used to hoist up supplies rather than relying on hiking and climbing the mountain.  This system is vital for Aldanbeld's imports and exports, but is expensive for the transport of visitors.  Most visitors prefer to hike, especially the humans of Thaet Hjemsted that know the most-efficient routes.  Even still, the hiking routes take almost a full day of hiking to reach.   Behind Aldanbeld's surface towers rises the Brontesians' highest peaks, known as the Crown of Aldan, or "Kruwnaldan".

Demographics

Majority dwarf, with a small gnome minority

Government

The city operates like a city-state, with its own self-proclaimed monarchy.  On the larger scale of Orcli, it operates as a regular capital city.  King Horgen's lineage and family has ruled since the founder, King Alden.  The city likes to keep limited contact with the outside world, and esteems itself greatly, even alienating other dwarf cities like Weghall.

Defences

Atop a mountain, Aldanbeld is very defensible, along with its underground location and stone walls and towers which serve as lookout towers.

Industry & Trade

Mining, dwarf-made goods

Infrastructure

Underground network of hoists and levees which can pull supplies and passengers up like a cable car or elevator, underground vaulted dwellings, chambers, and buildings; above-ground towers and castles which operate as ventilation systems and are usually releasing clouds of steam.

Districts

The Towers: district of above-ground structures used for foreign meetings, ventilation, and sentry The Chamber: main hub of Aldanbeld featuring a huge, vaulted, cave ceiling and tunnels spindling outward.  The Great Column lies in the middle of the Chamber, always visible, towering, and a main focal point of traveling from one tunnel to the next. The Mines: loose term to describe mining areas, which fade from Aldanbeld's hustle and bustle into the Brontesian caves and mine network The Tunnels: each tunnel leading to other chambers called Halls, which sometimes have an above-ground presence and entrance, each providing a specialized focus, including the Hall of Bells (temples), Hall of Goods (marketplace), Hall of Anvils (metalwork), Hall of Rations (grocery), Hall of Steins (taverns), Hall of Beds (inns), and the Hall of Contracts (guildhall, mining work hub). The Shaft: tunnel and corresponding network of tunnels which provide hoists to transport goods and passengers from the base entrances up to Aldanbeld, powered by the Hoistcranks, a network of gears driven by coal and steam power.

History

Aldanbeld was first established by King Aldan, who turned his chieftainship of dwarf miners into a monarchy and dwarf city, which rapidly grew as the dwarves expanded underground.  Aldanbeld has never been captured, but because it relies on agricultural imports, it has ceded to the orcish overrule in order to be connected to Orcli's network of trade.
