Ice Fog

The days were quiet as the forest creatures kept to their frozen burrows. It was important to conserve all the heat that they could. The smell of wood burning fire filled the air, as all of the houses had been without power for quite some time. The constant fog refracted the light. It reflected off of the many frozen surfaces. However, the ethereal beauty transformed to a nightmarish cold when night fell. As the temperatures dropped, the sounds of trees exploding and creaking echoed through the otherwise silent landscape.
As humans expand and monopolize the mountains landscape, other dangers present themselves. The falling trees often knock down power lines. Forest fires spark easily, and can spread from poorly maintained chimneys or candles left unattended through the night.

Manifestation

A thick low-lying cloud settles in on the mountain for several days. As time goes on, the moisture in the air condenses and freezes on nearly every surface, slowly encasing everything in a layer of ice. The longer the cloud stays on an area, the thicker the ice grows. While rare, the ice has been known to reach thicknesses of over an inch.
Along with the ice cloud comes abnormally cold temperatures. Those low temperatures cause the sap in the maples, birch, and evergreens to freeze. This is what leads to the trees exploding. When combined with the excess weight of the ice forming on the branches, many of the trees fall or they are damaged so severely they die off.

Localization

The forest and the mountain top is most damaged as the ice encases the bushes, rocks, trees, etc. As the excess ice melts, the additional rising water in the streams can cause flooding. This erodes the banks as it fills the lake. While the surface of the lake usually remains frozen, the excess water can cause the ponds to flood, which is slowly leading to their shores eroding.
