Culture
Shared customary codes and values
The mud brothers value having a good time through ingenuity and friendship. They are quick to welcome in new friends but often scare them away with their intensity.
Common Dress code
The mud brothers wear what they have on hand or can easily trade for. While a few like bright clothing, many couldn't care less, as the only time they are fully clean is when they are swimming in clear water.
Art & Architecture
The mud brothers often build their interconnected homes in the many culverts dotting the mountain.
Common Customs, traditions and rituals
The mud boys love competition but are not overly concerned with who wins. They tend to race on foot and up trees but their favorite by far, is down the streams that run through their homes after a good rain. The vehicle of choice varies as to whether they float on broad leaves, sticks, or other debris. They have a physically combative nature.
Coming of Age Rites
As they grow in age and skill, the mud boys are encouraged, but never forced to take part in a "Thunder Run," with those who complete one on their own being considered an 'adult.' The thunder run is a special race that usually takes place during the summer months when flash flooding during a thunderstorm creates torrents of water. The torrents are so strong the racers can make it all the way down the mountain to the lake. It is particularly difficult because of the wind, currents, and falling debris. The water also gets to a much greater depth changing the landscape making previously known streams unrecognizable.
Ideals
Beauty Ideals
Coming in many shapes and sizes, the mud boys tend to find practical extremes attractive. Very tall, short, strong, bulky, etc. all give obvious and clear advantages in various competitions/games and thus are all seen as desirable.
Gender Ideals
The mud boys do not overtly have gender roles but the males tend to be more physical while females tend to out think their counterparts in competition.
