Celebration of Hyapalissen birthdays
In Hyapalis the abundance of water also translates in how birthdays tend to be celebrated for especially the younger children. When it is somebody's birthday they hire a water dancer or a group of them, who perform a story that is added by their ability to move the water. These stories can be about all manner of things. It could be about war, love, survival and all other kinds. Though most parents are pretty sure that their children doesn't get anything from the story itself though the spectacle of watching water move through the air in unison with the dancer is already enough to keep them entertained. The parents usually understand a bit more of the story though that also highly depends on who you ask. For some they are just entertainers for children. Usually when children reach their teens they usually still don't understand the story however the magic of the water moving in line with the dancers has faded for them and they prefer either something else or just to spend celebrated time with their friends.
History
This birthday tradition is one that has trickled down from the wealthy to the common folk. When this skill, to move along with the water, was more scarce the performers only performed for the pharaoh or the extremely wealthy. The people needed to pay a lot of money back then to see such a spectacle. Taliani was one of these water dancers that started to write down how this was done onto scrolls and later encapsulated it with a thick layer of frozen cildral. This see through layer of protection has preserved it up to this day. The actions of this woman made the art of water dancing far more commonly available. This had some unforeseen positive effects in the generations to come. The control of the water has helped the city quite a bit with the sewer system and production of cildral. In a minor way it has also flowed into the architecture.
