Adonaii (AH-don-ey-ee)

The Adonaii live on the five small islands above the northern tip of Alagaesia in the Lunar Sea. A hardy folk, they are fishers and farmers used to forging their own path using the limited resources available on their islands and from the seas surrounding them.   The southernmost island has a pair of low mountains which contain just enough iron ore to meet their needs for metal for farming and fishing, and the other islands have just enough arable land to meet their dietary needs. Adonaii fishing vessels regularly ply the storm-swept seas around their high-sided islands, gathering large catches of oily fish in the cold, nutrient-rich waters. Much of the fish is dried, salted, or smoked to preserve it, and then the largest fishing vessels make the trip to Alagaesia and Pyria for trade.   Adonaii harvesters make use of everything in their environment. Kelp which is swept onto their gravel beaches is processed into fertiliser and added to their fields, or fed to the small herds of hardy goats which call the islands home. The goats' hair is turned into warm and high-quality woollen clothing, their milk is drunk and used in cooking. The fish are processed down to the last scrap of skin and bone, with their offal being used as part of the fertiliser on the fields and fed to the fish in the fish farms just offshore, and the bones used in fertiliser and as fasteners, fishing hooks, and the like.   Absolutely nothing is wasted by the Adonaii, with everything being carefully processed and reused over and over again. Their homes are dug out of the soil on top of the islands and peat bricks carefully laid over the top of the buried home for maximum insulation. The small amounts of outside materials which are brought in by their trade are carefully chosen for maximum usability and potential for reuse, such as the thick glass windows which are added to their homes to allow light in while preventing heat from escaping, meaning less fuel has to be used to heat and light their homes.
