House of Cats Library
The House of Cats has a particularly spectacular library in Bajapur, which has been restored and upgraded over the last twenty years to become a font of knowledge. A cool cloister, it is only available to a select few individuals outside the House itself.
A meeting room off the library has pictures of cranes and lilies on the walls and dividing screens, with delicate gilding accentuating details. Cushions on the floor surround the low table to one side.
The large library itself is three storeys tall, with a wide open space in the centre of the room, and walkways at each level around the bookshelves at the room edges. Driftglobes illuminate the room.
A receiving room to the side is fifty feet square, protected by House guards and lined with tables and bookshelves, for items to be unpacked and examined before being added to the collection. A single door leads into the library, and double doors lead out to a small courtyard, with four broad, shallow steps down.
When the library was attacked during reception of the Scrolls of Juzo Suko, two librarians and three guards are killed during the theft. Court wizard Tau Chul cast preservative spells upon the crime scene, and senior servant Zamadan served as the House's liaison with the investigators recruited from the Order of the Sacred Page, a group of talented individuals who had been permitted access to the library for research purposes. Part of the reward offered to the members of the group was complete access to the library at any time, subject only to restrictions upon particularly dangerous books by the Chief Librarian.
