Jafar el-Idris
Jafar el-Idris is a sage residing in the town of Ka-Tepi. Usually found in the town hall during the day, he spends his time with the town elders discussing what is happening in and around the town, and advising the town's leader, Mukhtar Rashan al-Safar. An older man with a neatly-trimmed grey beard and piercing eyes, he wears a loose open robe decorated with subtle embroidered filigree over a tighter-fitting robe. He is fond of small cups of strong coffee, and when identifying items will drink from an ornately-chased silver cup ringed with pearls, stirring it with an owl feather.
Both highly intelligent and widely knowledgeable, he is skilled in many different games of strategy and occasionally reveals surprising skill with magic. Many suspect he is a retired adventurer, but he refuses to be drawn on the subject. He maintains a friendly rivalry with fellow sage Fikri al-Soltani about their knowledge of the Raurin Empire.
Jafar is able to value items and issue a certificate of authenticity embossed with his magical seal. His certificates include a pen-and-ink drawing of the item in question, rendered with great skill, and are widely recognised as carrying great authority and expertise for a significant distance from Ka-Tepi. The private collections of several of the Moguls of Bajapur feature historic items of the Raurin Empire accompanied by Jafar's certificates.
