Bayou Revenant
When the first Bayou Revenant rose from the primordial ooze, it brought with it an insatiable hunger for fear and flesh. Drawn to the living like a moth to a flame, it relentlessly hunted those who dared to venture into the forsaken swamps. Yet, this creature was not alone, for the eldritch energies still pulsed with unyielding force, birthing more of its kind from the depths of the waters, multiplying the sinister brood. These undead abominations, many in number, became the stuff of nightmares for the people of Midnight.
Basic Information
Anatomy
The Bayou Revenant appears as a grotesque and decayed figure, its once-human form ravaged by the passage of time and the damp, putrid atmosphere of the swamp. Its rotting flesh hangs loosely from its skeletal frame, and its milky, vacant eyes betray no signs of life. The creature is covered in mud, algae, and moss, blending in seamlessly with the dank and overgrown surroundings.
Ecology and Habitats
This creature inhabits the waters of Straight Bayou and Can also be found in The Creek.
Behaviour
In its dormant state, the Bayou Revenant lies in wait amidst the murky shallows of the swamp, camouflaged among the reeds and muck. It remains motionless, virtually indistinguishable from the decaying vegetation and debris, ready to spring into action at the slightest disturbance. The creature is triggered into action when the waters it lurks in are disturbed. Even the most inconspicuous movement, like a misstep or a dropped object, can awaken this relentless undead creature from its slumber, setting in motion a terrifying encounter.
Upon being disturbed, the Bayou Revenant rises with a startling burst of speed and ghastly determination. Its decayed limbs propel it through the swamp with an unsettling agility, closing the gap between itself and its unsuspecting victims. The Bayou Revenant harbors a deep-seated grudge against the living. While its memory of the events that led to its transformation into an undead abomination is lost, an insatiable hunger for the flesh now drives its malevolent actions.
Additional Information
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
The creature's primary sense lies in its ability to detect even the faintest movements in the waters it inhabits. It is acutely attuned to the vibrations created by any disturbance, whether caused by the tiniest ripple or a larger splash. These aquatic vibrations act like sonar to the Bayou Revenant, providing it with an accurate understanding of its environment and the presence of potential prey. While it has exceptional hearing, the creature is nearly blind, unable to make out visual object beyond arm's reach.
