Characters - Professions
Getting Started:
Professions is what defines your beginnings within the realm of Midnight. While there are some that are stronger than others, each has their own strengths and weaknesses, and it is up to you to find and exploit them while doing your best to stay alive. Each player begins the game by rolling 1d100 to select their profession. This selection should be kept entirely secret from other players, so as not to give an advantage to the opposing gamers and will determine your starting stats, skills, and abilities, as well as your basic inventory. There are fifty total professions, and there is no rule against two or more players ending up with the same one, though the odds are slim that this will happen. The table below will allow you to find your place in the world of Surviving Midnight.
The general description of each profession is meant as a suggestive in the most general sense possible. Gender, style, specialization, and even history if you are so inclined to create one for your survivor are subjective to the individual, and you are encouraged to make the character your own in a way that appeals to you. The random selection is the great equalizer of the game, and keeps it challenging to each player, as well as making it a replayable scenario, as different professions will approach the challenges of Midnight in their own way, and with unique skills and tools at their disposal. Giving your character personality, motivations, and a reason to want to survive will, in the end, encourage you to try even harder to be the last one standing as midnight approaches!
The overall goal of the game is that it is to be played in rounds over the course of a longer period of time, with the survivors being pulled together at the end of the "season" for a final battle royale of the ones that Survived Midnight, with the final one standing at the end of that challenge to be the ultimate survivor!
