Nanny Wraith

The Nanny Wraiths are the restless and tormented spirits of those unfortunate souls who fell victim to the Crybaby Specter's malevolent game at The Creek. Once kind-hearted individuals driven by concern for the crying child, they now embody a grotesque perversion of their former selves. Bound to the dark waters of The Creek, they are cursed to roam the murky depths, lying in wait for the next unsuspecting victim to come near. They are ghastly and ethereal figures, their bodies partially decomposed and distorted by the malevolent energy that now courses through their being. Their skin is pallid and waterlogged, with patches of decaying flesh hanging from their skeletal frames. Their eyes glow with a sickly green hue, like eerie lanterns in the darkness. These undead horrors move with unnatural swiftness and agility, able to emerge from the water with a terrifying speed. Their arms are elongated and skeletal, ending in razor-sharp claws that they use to tear apart their victims. As they attack, their haunting cries echo through the night, a macabre symphony of sorrow and vengeance.

Basic Information

Anatomy

The Nanny Wraiths possess an eerie and unsettling anatomy, a grotesque blend of decay and malevolent energy. Their bodies appear waterlogged and partially decomposed, with patches of rotting flesh hanging from their skeletal frames. The skin is a sickly pale hue, mottled with greenish discolorations, evidence of their prolonged exposure to the murky depths of The Creek. Their once-human features are distorted, giving them a ghostly and otherworldly appearance. The eyes, now glowing with an unnatural green light, peer out from sunken sockets, casting an eerie gleam upon their haunting visage. Their mouths are stretched in a permanent rictus grin, revealing rows of razor-sharp teeth, stained with the blood of their victims.   The Nanny Wraiths' limbs are elongated and thin, reminiscent of spectral tendrils. Their fingers end in long, bony claws, each capable of tearing through flesh and bone with ease. Despite their decaying appearance, their movements are swift and agile, defying the laws of nature.

Behaviour

As undead horrors, the Nanny Wraiths are eternally tormented and restless souls, consumed by the misery of their past and the Specter's dark influence. This relentless agony fuels their insatiable hunger for vengeance, as they become instruments of the Crybaby Specter's twisted revenge against the living. When undisturbed, the Nanny Wraiths remain in a dormant state, lurking just below the water's surface, concealed by the murky depths. Like malevolent sentinels, they wait patiently for any signs of intrusion. The slightest disturbance in the water sets them into motion, propelling them with a supernatural speed towards their prey. Their attack is ferocious and relentless, fueled by the despair and suffering of their own demise. Despite their lack of intelligence, their movements are calculated and precise, working in eerie unison as they coordinate their assault. Their decayed forms seem to glide effortlessly through the water, creating an unsettling and otherworldly sight as they close in on their victims. Once engaged in the attack, the Nanny Wraiths show no mercy or restraint. Their bone claws tear into their prey with a horrifying ferocity, making quick work of their unfortunate targets. There is no emotion or empathy in their actions, only the ruthless pursuit of their undead imperative.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

The Nanny Wraiths' sensory perception is compromised by the decay and damage to their physical bodies. Their eyes, although glowing with an eerie green light, are clouded and milky, limiting their ability to discern fine details and colors. The world around them appears hazy and distorted, adding to their ghostly and unsettling appearance, however, where their visual perception lacks, their connection to the water of The Creek compensates. The Nanny Wraiths possess a heightened sensitivity to the subtlest disturbances in the water, allowing them to detect even the faintest ripples or movements on its surface. They can detect vibrations and disturbances in the water caused by the approach of intruders, signaling potential prey treading too close to the edge. They can sense the presence of any living creature that comes within a certain radius of The Creek, regardless of how stealthy or silent the individual may be. Their acute awareness of the water's movements grants them a significant advantage when ambushing their victims. As soon as they detect an intrusion, the Nanny Wraiths emerge with swift and eerie grace, propelled by their spectral connection to the creek's essence. Their ability to pinpoint the location of their prey allows them to strike with precision and deadly efficiency.

  • Drowned Fury: When players venture too close to the waters of The Creek, the Nanny Wraiths are triggered into action, causing them to emerge from the water and attack with eerie precision, granting them a temporary surge of strength and speed. Once activated, the Nanny Wraiths emerge from the murky depths, their bodies partially submerged in the water. Their decayed and waterlogged forms enable them to move with surprising agility and maneuver through the marshland, giving them an advantage in combat. In the first two rounds of the attack, the Nanny Wraiths gain a +2 advantage on all attack and defense rolls due to surprise, unexpected speed, and their bodies still being severely saturated with the Creek water. Following these initial rounds, their abilities return to that standard listed, becoming less frenzied and easier to damage as the water seeps away from their now exposed forms.
  • Drowning Embrace: When confronted with an intruder near The Creek, these undead horrors coordinate and strategize their attacks, working in a grim unity to overpower and submerge their prey beneath the water's surface. As the unsuspecting victims draw closer to the creek's edge, the Nanny Wraiths converge, their eyes glinting with a malevolent gleam. With waterlogged arms outstretched, they attempt to encircle the target, coordinating their movements to surround them. Once a victim is within their grasp, the Nanny Wraiths lunge and grab hold with vice-like grips, each wraith using their collective strength to pull the victim downwards into the chilling depths of The Creek. While underwater, the victim faces the dreadful reality of fighting for survival against the relentless onslaught of the Nanny Wraiths, all while being submerged and disoriented. The wraiths' decaying bodies absorb some of the damage dealt by the victim, making it challenging for them to break free. The Nanny Wraiths will always begin combat with this tactic if they can surprise their victim. They will attack in a group of 3 to 6 individual Nanny Wraiths, each one having to make a successful roll to surprise their victim and and then attack. Only those that succeed in their ambush are added to this tactic. Each successful Wraith must them make a grapple attack, with each success adding to the Difficulty of the character resisting being pulled under by 1 level, starting with a (7 to 8) Challenging Difficulty for one success and going up from there to a maximum of (17 to 18) Unimaginable Difficulty. Once under the surface, the Wraiths will begin to tear at the victim with their claws, dealing an automatic two damage per round. The victim can hold their breath for as many minutes as half their Body score, after that, they will begin drowning, losing one HP her turn until they break free or are dead.
