The Great Forest of Larendalyth, also known as the Silent Sentinels by the Krovandir, is an extremely dense coniferous forest mainly located on a peninsula east of the
Orkapusten River and one of it's tributaries, the
Nordiselva.
Second only in size to the
Vargenfell, the Larendalyth has proved far harder to explore, not only for the denseness of its trees but also the cold lingering fogs that settle within it, both of which notably hinder navigation.
Despite this there are a few settlements within its borders - mainly humans and dwarves as well as a few
Varl all call Larendalyth home, and since
The Fracture several small groups of aelf have moved to settle within its borders.
Notable Features
The First Circle - Deep within the most densely wooded part of the first stands a circle of stones, each over 12 feet high, surrounding a central stone of nearly 20 feet in height. Each is hand carved with runes, symbols and characters from nearly a hundred languages and each monolith is made of a different type of stone found in
Heimval.
The varl say that the stones have been at this spot since before they were born on Heimval, however some of the characters and words etched into their surfaces have only been in existence for a few hundred years. Also despite the stone's having no magical aura, they seemingly resist being damaged - any weapons blow that cracks the surface or carves of a piece of the stone is found to have been restored in the first light of the next dawn.
Thurlness Mountains
This small coastal range of hills (though they are called mountains by most folk) surrounds the southern most point of the the peninsula Larendalyth sits upon meaing these peaks are battered by the easterly winds that whip across the Laren Gulf.
