Prime Hunters Rank/Title in Svalskogenheim | World Anvil

Prime Hunters

Only one thing can finish the fight and that is death. Even then, some keep fighting.
The world likes to invent the things in the darkness, the evils that hide away from sight. If only then to make themselves seem less monstrous.
— Both attributed to Vomir of Skoce
Masters of their art of seeking and killing their prey, those that earn the title of Prime Hunter are respected and feared in equal measure. Appointed by their peers, there are some that seek the title while there are others that wear the title as a heavy mantle, however all who don the rank claim the responsibility of leading their fellow Hunters through the most dangerous of situations.

Appointment

When a Prime Hunter dies or more occasionally retires, word is passed, most often via word of mouth, to all other Hunters who are nearby or within the region. At the next solstice all who can attend meet at a designated spot, usually the nearest Hunter Bastion to where their comrade fell, or rarely a site of significance such as the Stone Circles of Mir. On that night, a moot is convened, and those present discuss amongst themselves who they believe is worthy to hold the rank. If present, the nominee can only accept that night; if absent three Hunters take up the task of seeking them out and hearing their decision. If no agreement is reached then tradition has it that the moot is reconvened a year later at the same place.

Duties

Prime Hunters still continue to Hunt and complete contracts as they see fit; they now however offer tuition and guidance, as well as when they are able to, aid and hospitality to their fellow Hunters. When necessary they will call for and lead a Hunting party to take on those monsters deemed so dangerous only they have the ability to kill them.
