The Night of the Holy Flame was a political purge which conducted by Holy King Hades Valius to allow him to seize power after the previous Holy King died

There was a scramble for power after the previous Holy King, Julius Valhant, died suddenly. Many people claimed that they had the rightful claim to the throne. Soldiers loyal to Hades Valius (and the Holy Council) raided many rich families houses during the night, slaughtering all that they found within. After this, they burnt the houses down. In one night over 550 people were killed. This number includes servants and bodyguards as well as the intended targets.   After the night was over the remaining lords and priests rallied around Hades Valius, and he was elected by the Holy Council to be the next Holy King.
