The Rise of Multi-Cellular magical Lifeforms
As life became more complex so to did Animincantio cells. In what is still an unknown process some Animincantio cells joined the multi-celled ancestors of plants and animals combining their ability to generate energy from magic with photosynthesis and feeding. Many sages theorize that all living things are connected via this early symbiosis and thus explains the permeation of magic in all living beings. This theory is also used to explain the potential for naturally occurring supernatural adaptations and qualities in a wide number of natural lifeforms. However the process does yet explain why such adaptations do not occur in noticeable quantity across all samples of species. One commonly sited example being why are fire lizards capable of unnatural heat resistance and possess combustible blood while the vast majority of other lizards are entirely mundane. The debate continues and there seems to be no sign of students of arcane-biology finding an agreeable solution. With a popular counter theory being that all life was infected by virus or bacteria capable of uses arcane energy and that species capable of innate magical feats and qualaties are the result of mutations caused by what theorists dub as the Arcano-phage as it spreads to new species and hosts. There is also a simple third theory that all life on our world is to some extent adapted to the ambient magical energy in our environment.
The Development of Animincantio life forms
The first sessile organizations known to the fossil record that belong to the family of life that feed on magical energy occur during an explosion of bio-diversity that seems to have occurred in all life on Syann referred to as the Great Birthing. With the earliest known examples of sessile life appearing on the sea floor. Early magical feeding life forms were predominantly sea plant like, fungi like and radial sessile organizations many who developed predation to augment their diets. The earliest known non-radial magical feeding life are referred to as layline paddle worms a species of segmented soft bodied worms that filter feed on Layline plankton.
The explosion of biodiversity would see innumerable variants of these early lifeforms as they evolved along side more well documented life forms in the primordial seas of prehistory.
A case study in living fossils Magical life is remarkably endurant to extinction events as their biomes and energy sources are in part metaphysical and changes to the physical world have much less impact on them. Many have changed very little and some might be called throw-backs to more primordial states of life.
Some Extinct animals capable of processing magic
Crystal Shell Trilobite - This trilobite had a shell made of crystal that could refract light and magical energy, making it highly visible to other creatures in the water. It likely used its shell for communication and mating displays. Spectral Ammonite - This extinct ammonite had a translucent shell that was able to refract and bend light in unusual ways. It likely used this ability for camouflage and to attract mates. Pyrite Nautilus - This nautilus had a shell made of pyrite, a mineral that is highly reflective and can store and release magical energy. It likely used its shell to defend itself and attract mates. Arcane Sponge - This sponge was able to absorb and store magical energy from the water around it. It likely used this energy to fuel its growth and reproduction. Rune Coral - This coral had intricate patterns on its surface that resembled ancient runes or symbols. It likely used these patterns to communicate with other creatures and to attract mates.
