Protectors of Sylas

The longstanding protectors of Sylas, Aegis has stood guard for hundreds of years as the front line against any threat to the mortal races. With twelve keeps around the globe, Aegis agents are available to provide aid quickly to those that require it.   Aegis is made up of various agents from many different backgrounds. While many agents come to Aegis of their own will, many also do not. While the keeps will never turn down a brave soul, many of the keeps are bolstered by lawbreakers forced into temporary, or permanent servitude.   Each Aegis keep has a sigil that flies over the Aegis tabard colors of Silver and Blue.    

The Lawbreaker Initiative

  With the need of Aegis agents rising around the globe, the founding members struck the Lawbreaker initiative with the countries and courts of the world. From this point, persons who break the law could be sent to an Aegis keep to work off their sentence. Lawbreakers take up the lowest jobs, especially for their first year in service to the stronghold. most are relegated to kitchen work, mucking stalls and general labor.
  After a year of service to the stronghold, a lawbreaker can be allowed to accompany other Aegis members into the field and assist with contracts. As each lawbreaker receives accommodations from leadership, they rank up in a similar way to standard members, but at a much slower pace until either their sentence is completed, or, leadership grants them the ability to become full-fledged members.
 

Ranks


Headmaster - A leader of one of the 12 Strongholds. This is a voted on position, however, few headmasters ever run opposed if/when the time to vote arrises. A headmaster is supposed to lead for 3 years, but most of the headmaster have been lead for many more as few feel themselves worth of the title and position. Headmasters wear a Aegis talisman of Platinum, edged with Gold.

Commander - A commander is the second in command in any stronghold, and the leader of any military sorties that many occour. The commander is usually the forward facing member of leadership to the rest of the stronghold, while the headmaster deals with larger issues. Commanders wear a solid platinum talisman.

Agent, 1st class - Agent, first class are agents who have proven themselves to be the best of the best. Often referred to as "ones", they personify the tenants of Aegis and have proved themselves many times in the field. 1st class agents are a voted in rank, and can only be placed up for consideration by another agent. 1st class Agents also hold a rank of leadership and are often the ones who lead missions out of the stronghold. 1st class agents wear the standard talisman, but it is edged in gold.

Agent, 2nd class - 2nd class Agents are those who have been with the stronghold, or Aegis as a whole for at least 3 years of full-fledged service (time spent working off a criminal sentence does not count towards this). 2nd class agents are also voted in, often at the request of a 1st class agent. 2nd class Agents take up leadership if/when a 1st class Agent or higher is not present, but they hold no rank of leadership outside of a mission or contract and are considered to have the same rank as anything below them when at the stronghold, although many lower ranked member will still hold them to higher standards. 2nd class agents wear the standard talisman, but edged in copper.

2nd class is the highest rank a lawbreaker can hold Many lawbreakers serving a life-sentence will find themselves as a 2nd class, after a much longer term within Aegis, often 10 or more years unless their deeds warrant earlier promotion.

Initiate - Initiate is the beginning rank given to new recruits who come to aegis under their own will, given to lawbreakers after they have completed their sentence or as voted in by others if they are serving a life-sentence. Initiates make up the majority of the forces and are not granted the title of Agent. Initiates are often not allowed to take on contracts or missions without a 2nd class or higher agent to accompany them, however, this depends on the strength of forces at their specific stronghold. With lower and lower recruits each year, some stronghold are forced to trust in their initiates to complete tasks given to them.

Hand - Hand is the rank given to lawbreakers until they finish their sentence or have proven themselves to leadership.   Aegis Strongholds
Frostpoint Keep. Nestled in the northern area of the Crown. They are the northernmost stronghold in Sylas. The heraldry of Frostpoint Keep is a Falcon in Flight. Lead by Headmaster Dalmir Stonedelver.
  Castle Villimant. The northern stronghold in Kedra, their heraldry is a Castle Tower. They are overseen by Headmaster Sandal Stoutarm
  Everbright Castle. The Southern stronghold in Kedra, their heraldy is a Dragon. They are commanded by Headmaster Domri of Clan Silentstep.
