Skull of the Beheaded Prince
Irates' brutal Symbol of Power
Leer en Español
Tied up to the main mast of the Beheaded, the flagship of the Irates criminal organization, the gruesome view of a child's skull with a broken muzzle inspires a weird mix of pride and unity. In some individuals, hidden deep in their chests, there is a bit of guilt sprinkled on top.
Kuja was 14 years old when he was murdered during the Irate assault that ocurred in the year 3006 E.Alz: The criminals, retaliating against his father's War on Pirates (A military deployment to stop the pirate threat on the Kartian coasts), invaded the City of Dia and infiltrated the castle, taking the kid as prisoner. The prince was beheaded in a captured ship in front of the Kartian army and their murderers took his head as a trophy of their revenge. The pirate groups that united under this cause formed a criminal organization called Irates, and designed for themselves a flag with a picture of the skull of Kuja and a sword positioned where his neck would be.
The Irates also named all their successive ships after this event, first by renaming the captured ship where he was killed as The Beheaded, and then adding others such as Gnawed Prince and Infiltration. They took the skull as the symbol of their power, representing their willingness and capability to take revenge where it hurts the most and to terrorize whoever opposes them.
After it was recovered, the head was tied to the Beheaded's main mast, where the exposition to the elements dried and rotted most of what was left. The jaw got detached from the rest of the skull and was unfortunately lost. After this event and due to the stench produced by the skull, the captain of the Beheaded, Heliom, ordered to take the skull to clean it.
Two pirates worked on the skull until it was free of soft tissues, and tied it back to the mast. The resulting work is a dark tinted skull, with several broken and missing pieces, including most of the front, and some broken and missing teeth. However, most of it was preserved in a good state.

A brutal end

Preservation of the skull
During the pirates' escape from the City of Dia, the head of Kuja got temporarily lost inside the captured ship, where vermin gnawed at his muzzle and ate most of its skin and flesh. After it was recovered, the head was tied to the Beheaded's main mast, where the exposition to the elements dried and rotted most of what was left. The jaw got detached from the rest of the skull and was unfortunately lost.
