Nightmare On A Moon - 6. Despair
The Faceless, trudging forwards, weathered the hail of laser fire and hard rounds that smacked, scorched and pitted their outer layers of ablative armour. Nothing major, just the usual. Just another mission to another rock in space where the remnants of the Bionic Technocracy had sprung up. Who better to send than The Faceless? Nightmare, no less, the squad most often chosen to fight in the thickest of battles. The ones with in the Heavy Warcases near-impervious to traditional weapons fire, and have proven that fact time and again each time they've gone on similar missions.
Maxirillian Talese, squad leader of Nightmare, flexed and flared his burst-jets. He wanted to close the distance with the enemy and do what they did best. His squad were just as eager, the four of them flaring their jets too. Kaigo Vorst, ever the competetive, burst his way passed Talese. But then Vorst stopped mid-air, an earsplitting clang sounding at an impact, his momentum arrested completely before crashing to the ground with the sounds of grinding metal.
Talese spun around to see what had happened to his friend. He had just enough time to register a large metal spike protruding from his friend's shielded faceplate before another loud clang sounded. Pain errupted from his right arm as his armour shook and vibrated from the almighty impact. The next thing he knew he was on the ground too, the hit slamming him out of the sky just as with Kaigo. He opened his eyes, realising he'd shut them somewhere in the reeling and was met by the sight of Kaigo's armoured faceplate.
The metal rod glistened in the sunlight, spattered with Kaigo's yellow lifeblood. In that moment, the terrible realisation of what had just occurred began to sink in, and Maxirillian Talese felt nothing but despair.
