Lien Jian

Barely an adult, young King Lien has been thrust to the throne far sooner than anticipated following the sudden and traumatic death of his father. Unprepared, he is leaning heavily on the leaders that had helped the Late King Pall Jian as he tries his best to rule Yokono.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Lien is a lanky young man with a severe face. Thought sickly as a child, he has grown to be in good health; more than fit enough to lead the charge of cavalry into battle, if it were ever needed.

Facial Features

Though in good shape, Lien has been known to be physically off putting due his gaunt face. It was especially pronounced as a child, making him look even more sickly than he was. His brown eyes and matching hair means he has no visually distinctive or enticing features to make up for his facial structure.

Physical quirks

Despite the best efforts of his father and the Church, Lien Jian still favors his left side in nearly all things. Despite his work of the pen is as good or better with his left as most others are with their right, he is still grown to be self concious of this perceived defect.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Lien Jian is the last member of the Jian family. His mother died when he was an infant, and with his father recently passed away, he is all that remains. Being the sole prince is difficult, despite the privelege provided. King Pall Jian tried to be the loving and present father that all children need, but the crown is a heavy burden. Raised mostly by servants, Lien received all the bookish learning a sovereign to be would need, but little in the way of practical application. As Lien entered his late teens, the kingdom seemed to usher in a Golden Age, one that required less of the King's attention. This provided the two to finally really connect as family. The regaining of the relationship would only make the loss to come all the more tragic.

Sexuality

Lien's desires and sexuality has been repressed for years. Like most noble families, he has been constantly reminded of the need to not sully the noble line and to not 'dabble' with commoners. Unlike most noble families, King Pall actually paid enough attention to ensure this did not occur. Now that he is king, he's restrained only by his own morality. The Church may be in his ear, but they know their bounds.

As the last of his line, there is pressure to sire a new heir to the throne. It just must be with the right woman. It would seem he is all too eager to find her...

Education

Raised more by advisors and the Church, Lien is exceptionally bright and educated, even by the standards of the nobility. Even as King, he still tries to find and read a new book or text every week. Lately, he's been trying to learn the history of his neighbors, the Stoneheart Orcs.

Accomplishments & Achievements

Since taking the throne, Lien has managed to learn a great deal. While he still maintains his boyish tendency to inherently trust others and is easily impressed, he has been able to pick up where his late father left off with minimal delay or harm to the kingdom.

Prior to his ascension, Lien was renowned for his skill on a horse. This is high praise, coming from a kingdom already known for it's pride in horsemanship and feared for it's cavalry.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Even though there were many years where the relationship left alot to be desired, Lien still more than anything wants to make his late father proud: to live up to the enormous legacy of Pall and his ancestors. Some of the more aware advisors are advising him to not set impossible standards to himself, but this is falling on deaf ears.

One thing Lien is sure of; even as King, he wants to be more present in the life of his spouse and children than his father was. If he can do that one thing, he will be content with his life.

Vices & Personality flaws

Protected by his father, his fathers advisors, and the Church, Lien still has some childish innocence about him. Despite his own accomplishments and noble status, he is easily impressed by others; notably by those outside of his world. Adventurers and those resembling the stories he read as a child still enthrall him, even though he has much more real and prescient concerns.
