Malapanga
A city at the borders of Stoneheart and D'arcan, Malapanga is one of the few cities known to have survived from the Lost Age. Being heavily contested and routinely rebuilt, the ancient secrets of the past are buried far beneath.
Demographics
Malapanga has always been a predominantly Orcish city, though the cultures of Stoneheart and D'arcan conflict at times. The next largest are the humans, mostly from D'arcan as well. Other species are welcome here, but do not have a sizable population.
Government
Currently, Malapanga is owned and controlled by Stoneheart and the Oricsh people who originally founded the settlement. The municipal authorities, from the magistrate down, are generally sympathetic to Stoneheart. Some D'arcani holdouts call for reforms to more closely represent the decentralized Mage Lords, but they lack the support and means to execute these ideas.
History
The small city of Malapanga has been of little consequence since the Lost Age, when the few settlements that did exist were little more than congregations of large friend groups. It is perhaps because of the small size that has lead to it's survival where larger settlements and cities have been targeted in wars and calamaties through the Three Ages. It had been completely ignored during the Fey Crisis, causing refugees to flee here, which caused a dramatic and sudden population rise, where it has remained more or less steady since, barring decreases due to war.
Among those early refugees were accomplished mages and crafters fleeing from what would become D'arcan. Viewing the knowledge to be as vital as their own lives, they worked in secrecy to collect information in an underground library. Secrecy was kept to a maximum; the thought being that the Fey could not target what they do not know exist. Although this rational actor bias precluded the inherent chaos of The Fey that caused so much destruction, it was still a success, and in fact proved too successful. As the First Age dawned the burgeoning Mage Lords began to apear, they saw territory for ripe for easy expansion. The Orcs of Stoneheart, having grown accostomed to fighting the supernatural, had no qualms in dispatching other mortal sentients to retain what was theirs. In the process of the ongoing conflicts, those who knew of the underground library and it's contents have been largely forgotten. In the Triumverate War, Malapanga was spared from most of the bloodshed. The Stoneheart Orcs were sympathetic towards their kin, but did little to aid the war effort beyond providing arms and supplies, often under deep secrecy. As the war turned agains the Triumverate, the counteroffensive against the Orcs quickly found more important and lucrative targets. Because Stoneheart had, at worse, been a begrudging trade partner, they had been able to broker a separate peace; one that did not require them to forfeit all their territory as would happen to those who fell before the Intransican Empire.
