Protectorate of Veth
Surrounded and maintained by the Maiden Queen, the Protectorate of Veth is an unusual pocket of Elves, granted autonomy in exchange for their sovereignty.
Structure
Veth is close to a tribal, anarchist state. Linthalian governance ensures foreigners keep out. A few permanent settlements exist, with leadership decided by local elders. most of the population is nomadic, relishing a life on horseback, with groups lead by tribal leaders with total authority.
Culture
Veth's culture is highly influenced by Linthalia, that surrounds it on all sides. Specifically, the promiscuous behavior and lack of most social or intimate taboos have carried over across the borders.
While the Vethians understand and are adept at trade for fair value, they are not the mercantilists of their neighbors. They are also not the types to grow agriculture solely for their trade value: the agriculture output around the villages being almost solely for self sufficiency.
Public Agenda
Veth wants nothing more than to be left alone by the world at large, which is why it is content to have Linthalia claim sovereignty and manage governance of their area. The issues of war and politics are only distractions from what is important: providing for themselves and worship of Gods.
Demography and Population
Veth is an exclusively elvish territory, and low in population. Although Vethian tribes are friendly to outsiders and other species, membership is hereditary. Seeing as interspecies relationships can never lead to children, it effectively keeps the area purely Elvish.
Military
Defense of Veth is provided by the Linthalian Army. Being adept hunters and horse riders, any possible conflict in Veth would face a competent asymmetric force. There's little of strategic value, meaning it's likely that a possible invading force might just pass through and ignore the Vethian tribes, or may avoid the region entirely and capture Aulmers to the southwest in order to use the river to move closer to the capital.
Religion
worship is high among the tribes of Veth. First among them is worship to Varissa, creator of the Elves. Immediately behind her is Ihstar, God of time and trees, as well as Khalee, Goddess of beauty and seasons.
Foreign Relations
it was The Maiden Queen of Linthalia that proposed providing a designated space to protect Vethian traditions as well as land from market pressure. On a long enough time, the need to find new lands to farm would remove any suitable lands for the Vethians and their nomadic, equestrian ways. As such, there is high respect for the Queen, even if many wish the designated land had been larger.
Veth has minimal interaction with outsiders, as there is little there of interest.
