The Maidens of Vilory

The Maidens of Vilory are slightly bizarre construction of the worship to Glokrei, the God of War. The Maidens are the most beautiful, virginal women in the country, brought together and offered as sexual offerings to Glokrei, so that he might bestow a new King upon the Kingdom of the Empty Throne.

Structure

The Maidens are led by an elderly woman known as the Matron, who is responsible for the training and enforcement of all the Maidens. The Maidens are colocated in one barracks dormitory within the capital city. The Matron takes her orders from one of the Major-Chaplains, a priest of high military rank, regarding recruitment, transfers, ceremonies, and the like.

Culture

Vilory is an already mertiocratic and at times highly competitive culture. The Maidens of Vilory are even more so; making the subculture of the Maidens frequently vicious. It is an honor to be considered potentially worthy of Glokrei and the nation's rebirth, but the true honor can only be achieved by one woman, so conventional wisdom suggests. In order for the God of War to choose any of these women, they must appear superior than the others, meaning despite rules opposing such behavior, backstabbing and hazing occur behind closed doors.   These women are not just pretty and opportunistic debutantes. The Major-Chaplain ensures that each of the women has true and deep faith in Glokrei, as well as the Vilorian heirarchy, so that she can be trusted to lead the child and the nation to divine glory once again.

Public Agenda

The purpose of the Vilorian Maidens is to tempt, propose, seduce, or otherwise bring Glokrei back to Vilory to sire more children with them. Any new children would be heir apparent to the throne. The Maidens are the feminine ideal of Vilory. Young, physically fit, beautiful, capable in battle, knowledgeable, and available.

Assets

The Vilorian Army owns and runs almost everything in the Kingdom. The Maidens are no different, still holding official rank within the bureacratic structure. Everything needed is provided by the Army, meaning the individual women or teenaged girls own little personal property, if any.

History

Vilory legend states that they were so adept at war that Glokrei favored them above all others, especially the fighting prowess of the women. He took a warrior of Vilory to bed, and she would have twin sons, Phabon and Deimlok. These children of gods would be the epitome of mankind, and would rule Vilory together, with their descendants being the kings for centuries; the Zweibrus.   The Zweibrus have not returned from war, and neither have their army. Though tradition dictates that the they still wait for the day the Zweibrus do indeed step foot in Vilory again, with the Sovereign General being watchful steward in the interim, the Kingdom of the Empty Throne seeks to resolve the problem another way. If he were to be sufficiently enticed, Vilory would have a new King.

The decision to institute the Maidens was controversial in the extreme. Vilorian culture still puts great value on preserving their Kingdom and its structure as its two kings last left it, and engaging in such behavior was argued as possibly an incredible disrespect towards a God. In an argument with the Generals, it was decided that the Maiden initiative would begin. It has had no success as of yet, but the same hesitancy to create the program has also made it unlikely for it to be disbanded.
