The Wizard Academy of D'arcan

Established in the capital of D'arcan, near the center of the nation, the Magical Academy of D'arcan is one of the most importants of their entire society, and the most prestigious school for aspiring wizards in all of T'sara.

Purpose / Function

The Academy is designed to house and train the future wizards of D'arcan through a five year cycle. These wizards will than serve in an official capacity of the state for a commensurate time. The Realm of the Mage Lords is the greatest concentration of magic wielders in the world, and the Lords themselves hold that to be integral to their safety and regional strength, and so parts of the Academy are not only dedicated to teaching magic, but attempts in magical exploration to push the boundaries of what is possible within it.

Architecture

The Archicetcure is built to exemplify the importance to which magic is to Mage Lord society, with grandiose and intricate arches and sculptures to impress tourists and foreignors on the outside. The Academy's dormitories and exterior facilities are built in an octogonal arrangement to keep the day to day of the Academy a secret from those same foreign eyes. This Octoganol, insulated nature also helps keep better control over the prospective students, to prevent from the leaving Academy grounds without permission and outside protection.

Defenses

The Academy does not have any defenses built into it's structure. The Capital city has never been attacked, and so such implements were never thought to be necessary, to say nothing of the defenses capabilities of any wizard present in the Academy itself. Students are expected to man security watches, to be on the look out for thieves, saboteurs, or misbehaving students.

History

The Mage Lords had existed since the middle of the First Age as a loose group of small dictatorships. One having the sense to recognize of the destructive potential of a war between them, one of the Lords sought to form a soft compact of union, that would after generations of cooperation would bring it together as the Nation of D'arcan. The provinces, formerly nations unto themselves, had their own practices by which new wizards would be trained. It would not be until the early Second Age that the Lords would agree on a centralized Academy where resources would be pooled together for national gain.

Tourism

Foreigners are permitted to tour the academy, but only on arranged tours and under supervision of elder class members or faculty. Family members or friends of the students may visit on prescribed dates, usually associated with holidays, and are likewise confined to specific areas of the campus.
