Undersea ballista

The first ballista the calamor saw was when their warriors met with the army of the Dominion of the Hobgoblin. They promptly stole one of them with a few other military weapons, but they quickly found out that it was only the ballista that the calamor could use underwater. They must find resources that last longer in the water. The calamor makers had four significant parts of the ballista to create. They needed unique materials for the arms, the sinews, the bowstring, and the bolts.

For the arms, they went back to their usual material when they needed something strong but flexible. Bones of fishes and sea mammals. Still, it took them a while to figure out the right combination and size of bones, and in the end, they settled on a composite version where they sliced the right bones and glued them together.

The sinew part was easier to solve. The calamor already used coiled fish bowels to tie items together. They just had to find the proper bowel for the job.

For the bowstring, they used the same technic, coiled fish bowels. And again, the only question was finding suitable fishes or sea mammals whose bowel will not snap easily under the tear.

The bolts were the easiest to figure out because they used spears, javelins, and darts for centuries. The final solution was a shortened javelin to lessen the effects of water friction. The makers also created special bolts for their undersea ballista. They had bolts with special tips with the same principle they used for regular spears. These tips were made from hollowed crystals and filled with ink or poison. Upon contact, the crystals would break and blind or poison the targets.

In the end, the calamor makers were able to create a somewhat crude but workable ballista solution for the needs of the empire. Because of the readily available materials, they can produce these weapons in great numbers.
I always say, steal the right idea and improve it with your ideas
