Tchazzar

King, Great Wyrm, Chief Master Sergeant

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Tchazzar is unnaturally huge. Even in comparison to his previous appearance in Dryad's Gold, where he was already legendary in size, but now is roughly 12x the size of a Colossal red. He isn't frail in his old age and rather seems as sleek as any young red with scales as bright as a hatchling's. It's hard to notice anything else about him since it's difficult to even look at him in his entirety from up close.

Body Features

Size estimates:
  • Wing span: 1,800ft
  • Total body length: 1,440ft
  • Height from chin to toes when standing: 684ft
  • Width of body at the end of the ribs: 180ft

Facial Features

Red dragons have spiny faces with multiple rows of spines that extend to the horns. Tchazzar has especially large spines, and seems to have multiple extra rows. His horns are heavy and sweep back, rapidly growing darker toward the tip but with a satin finish. His eyes are the swirling lava-like appearance typical of fire-wielding great wyrms. He tends to hold the sails around his ears a bit lower than average.

Identifying Characteristics

Other than his size Tchazzar's bright, glossy coloration and striped wings and frills are iconic, as is the black of his horns.

Human Form

Tchazzar's human form is a pale skinned ginger man around 6ft tall with angular features and a muscular body. He carries himself with the same stately nature he has during his calmer moments in his true form and is usually seen in uniform. He spends enough time in this form these days that he needs to do things like shave and get hair cuts, leaving him with very simply styled hair and a bit of a beard shadow.

Personal history

Tchazzar's father left some big shoes for his son to fill. He raised so much hell in his lifetime during the Age of War that despite the few records existing from those days there are still multiple accounts of grand destruction wrought by him. He was fond of taking bards captive and demanding they write about the destruction he caused, releasing the one with the best tale to spread the story and devouring the rest. Tchazzar wished to outshine his brutish father in every aspect and decided he would be the dragon history would remember even if it forgot all others.   This led to him becoming a beast with a storied history present throughout the vast majority of the Age of Adventuring, initially appearing on the world stage as a player in a deadly game of dragon's chess. Tchazzar's intelligence and talent for battle strategy served him well and led him to becoming a truly powerful being, and by the time dragons started to abandon Xorvintaal in favor of traditional combat he seemed strong enough to simply do as he pleased.   Tchazzar was envious of the notoriety of royalty among the humanoids and the other kinds of power they wielded because of something as simple as a bloodline. This led him to helping a rebellion of elves native to the Peakburst Isles against human colonizers from the Outlet Province. They were successful, and celebrated for a time- but Tchazzar turned on them very quickly and instead conquered the Peakburst Isles for himself, claiming every active volcano there as his own. He established his own capital at the foot of the largest, which is now called Fort Tasati, and ruled over the people there as a monarch for over 3 centuries.

A younger Tchazzar in his throne room at the end of his first century as king.
"Tchazzar was a force of pure chaos and evil. He was convinced of his superiority over all living things, even more so than a typical red dragon. He cared not for his subjects or allies except as expendable resources, but at the same time made efforts to ensure their loyalty." - From the Forgotten Realms wiki, cited to Dragons of Faerûn
If there was one thing other than himself Tchazzar cared about it was his progeny. A form of infamy could come from playing a hand in the creation of chaotic forces but he took care to love his children dearly to assure they wouldn't simply turn on him someday as he had planned to do to his father. When he grew bored with this position as King of the Peakbursts he left the islands to many of his favored children, and in the specific rule of his barely matured daughter Princess Malystryx, his eldest daughter and favorite child with his first mate whom he named his heir. Every dragon on the islands could trace their lineage back to Tchazzar, as could a soon-established clan of dragonborn. Tchazzar made occassional trips to the Peakburst Isles even when lairing in Gruumsh's Fall to see the results of his eldest children, even if the then Queen Malystryx had been driven from the throne long before.   There was a time where Tchazzar could actually lose to humanoids and other dragons. After being forcefully thrown in to the Shadowfell by a band of adventurers in the 1600s AWC, an attempt to permanently banish him, he had no magic of his own with which to try and escape back to the prime material. During his travels to find a solution he was taken down by the ancient blight wyrm known as Sseelgiroth, who fed upon his life force for nearly a century before he escaped his binds and fought the wyrm, crushing his skull in his jaws and devouring him to take back his life force. He escaped thanks to his half-dragon grand-daughter Raiskivohlheilla with help from the Brotherhood of the Wyvern, who also brought him back to the prime material. Tchazzar turned out to still have loyal subjects and was warned that Raiskivohlheilla didn't help him out of the goodness of her wicked heart- she planned to take his soul and use it to make herself a true red dragon. She did not survive to see these plans to fruition.
Alasklerbanbastos, a blue dragon of great size and power that ruled the deserts of the Eastern Province for a time, became something of a rival to Tchazzar. Not in a friendly way. They both craved being The One to go down in history. When Tchazzar slew the previous largest and oldest red dragon on record, Imvaernarhro, to lair in the largest and most powerful volcano on the continent, Alasklerbanbastos began to believe he might actually lose this infamy fight. He enlisted the Cult of the Dragon to become a dracolich, at which point he began to throw everything he had at Tchazzar- but it wasn't enough. Tchazzar was now living with his second mate (a younger red dragon by the name of Ozelnehfuella) and yet another batch of children and he wasn't about to have a threat to his family. He was unable to kill Alasklerbanbastos on his own, but when Ozelnehfuella joined the fight in a battle too close to Hellmouth for comfort it was just enough to finally tip the scales. For their hand in assisting the dracolich the local Cult of the Dragon chapter, the Ruby Chapter, was brought under forced servitude. Over time this became a true cult more dedicated to Tchazzar than anything else.

Hellmouth was something of a miniature version of his old kingdom from time to time. He would enforce his own law without mind for their authority when it suited him, usually in an effort to stymie changes that would affect his lair's location or lessen the trade flowing in to the city. He collected a protection tax that the city had no choice but to pay lest he destroy "the pests on his lawn," though to his credit he did fight against threats to the city- of course those were technically also threats to himself, so take that as you will.   Tchazzar had risked fighting a beast as legendary as Imvaernarhro to give his family the absolute best living conditions. He still took great interest in his broods even having raised so many by now, teaching his most talented children to battle personally, embarking on campaigns to play a lower-stakes game of pseudo-Xorvintaal against his hatchlings that were approaching adulthood. During one such absence Ozelnehfuella was slain by poachers, being much younger than Tchazzar so not nearly as untouchable in ability, and their final nest of eggs was stolen. The wyrmlings still living with their parents were also taken. Enraged, Tchazzar scoured the continent for more than a decade in search of his stolen progeny, leveling over a hundred towns chasing rumors of his young. This endless fury and the destruction it caused is referred to in history as the Ember Hour. He never found them and it is believed that the eggs and hatchlings were destroyed to try and avoid his wrath should he show up and find them wherever they were being hidden.   Having lost his mate and many of his children all in one fell swoop, something he blamed himself for as he felt he'd abandoned them, and not even managing to recover something to lay to rest had his rage fizzle to a deep melancholy. When he returned to his lair, which no dragon had dared to take during the interim, it is believed he slipped in to a slumber that he rarely roused from to do more than deliver commands to or hear out the requests of the local sect of the Cult of the Dragon. He was only occasionally sighted about a century and a half afterward, his emergence so rare that they caused a stir every time they happened. During the Last War sightings of him emerging from the volcano to stretch his wings and go for leisurely flights increased. Eventually he left his lair and he didn't return.   Unfortunately for the residents and occupying forces of Dryad's Gold it seemed Tchazzar was done mourning and wanted to break back in to the scene with a bang. Falling upon an already broken city he razed the entirety to the ground. Very few survived this attack and those that did were unlikely to have seen Tchazzar terribly close. During his effort to burn not just the city but also the forest where survivors were escaping through, Tchazzar came in to direct conflict with the mourning Mother of the Deepwoods, a great green wyrm named Maekishtalen who had just lost her own children to the war. They battled through the burning woods for more than a week of hit and run tactics and clever strikes, two great draconic powers clashing. Tchazzar's unannounced arrival and vicious destruction caused an immediate ceasefire and forced provinces at war to instead work together, working on a plan to kill the red wyrm.   While victorious in his battle against Maekishtalen he had expended significant energy, and in the fire-cleared land there is room for the army of multiple provinces to march alongside war machines with guns large enough to take down a beast like him. His wings were the first to begin taking bullets and were bloody shreds by the time the fighting is over. While Tchazzar caused significant damage to the opposing forces he was overwhelmed in the span of an hour, and his body hitting the ground was only the first of tens of thousands of chromatic dragons that would be killed in the years to come.   Or that is how the story goes. In 4198 AWC shortly after the battle of Hellmouth a college professor and a group of adventurers discovered that the dragon had been discovered to be female during clean up. His eldest and most favored daughter Malystryx, who had inherited her father's bulk and unnatural lifespan, was called to occupy the fallen city and keep it under control while Tchazzar went to raise hell elsewhere. Before another attack occurred word of her slaying reached his ears and his subsequent relapse in to grief ended up hiding his continued existence better than he might've done on purpose.
On the 29th of Artyus, 4198 AWC, there was an attack by the Central Province on the border of the Southern Province over the city of Hellmouth. When the battle turned and the Central Province seemed like it was certain to lose, the great wyrm Tchazzar appeared on the battlefield fighting for the Central Province in the name of the Jaws of Tiamat. He slayed the Goddess Luthic, destroyed a relic known as the False Eye of Gruumsh, and claimed that he is a God. Hellmouth fell to central authority and dragon occupation that day.   Before re-surfacing he was living as a human known as Kane in the Central Province for an unknown amount of time, eventually earning himself the top military position in the Central Government's forces as well as authority over the new air force. Some time during this he had sired a young daughter named Annabelle with the human woman Caroline Sebastol, the elected governess of the Central Province.   That is all that is currently understood about his re-emergence.

Gender Identity

He/Him

Employment

For some godforsaken reason he's working for the Central Government as the Governess's lapdog- perhaps because he is in love with her, and genuinely caring about another living thing seems to be the only thing that stops him from making wholly selfish decisions.

Accomplishments & Achievements

  • Began appearing in historical records on and off after beginning to play Xorvintaal, at which he turned out to be an incredibly effective taaldarax despite his smaller size at the time
  • Ruled the entirety of the Peakburst Isles for nearly 3 centuries and was referred to as King
  • Slayed the blight wyrm Sseelrigoth in the Shadowfell
  • Destroyed the blue dracolich Alasklerbanbastos and ripped the magic from his phylactery
  • Successfully ousted the previous red wyrm Imvaernarhro from his lair at Gruumsh's Fall
  • Became worshipped by the Cult of the Dragon
  • Successfully destroyed Dryad's Gold single-handedly, killing the Mother of the Deepwoods Maekishtalen in the process.

Failures & Embarrassments

Historical records show Tchazzar was killed in a joint province attack after he destroyed Dryad's Gold and burned down the forest now known as the Dead Woods. Dealing with his massive corpse was well documented by the Northern Province's main college as the closest major academic resource after the fires. A red dragon of great size absolutely did die there, and it could have been Tchazzar regardless of his living presence now- and dying is pretty embarrassing yo.

Mental Trauma

Not much about Tchazzar's bad times are known but we all have some. Having lost children in the past hurts him deeply. He also had a mate who's loss affected him greatly and had him spending most of his time slumbering in his lair in Gruumsh's Fall, basically making a giant volcano in to the sweatpants for his depression naps.

Intellectual Characteristics

Tchazzar has a storied history as a talented War Lord who didn't lose when he chose to partake in a battle for whatever reason, and not just because of his size. He isn't a mere brute- Tchazzar is intelligent. You have to be to properly utilize psychological warfare. He continues to fill this role for the Governess as the leader of her new air force and her highest ranking military officer overall. She keeps his expertise close.   Pride aside, he takes the intelligence of other sentient creatures seriously despite wholly believing himself to be a superior being.

Morality & Philosophy

Tchazzar is powerful enough that no one can really tell him what to do, so the only caps on his behavior are ones he sets himself. When he cares about something it seems to be in a zealot capacity (including caring about himself) and this colors how he approaches rules to live by.   He seems reluctant to enact violence that would take a young child from their living parent, though he has clearly had no hesitation about killing children and adults in the past. He also doesn't appear to want to be violent in front of his little girl. During a conversation at the museum in his human form:
"I'm not a man of many rules Desiel, considering nothing can enforce them, but taking someone's little girl is not an idea I relish. Annabelle is not my first but she is now my only. I might want to kill you but I wouldn't want to subject you to that first." He smiles widely. "You should've lied! If I thought she was your child I might've actually spared you more permanently."

Social

Contacts & Relations

Roscoe Moore - According to an overheard conversation these two are familiar with one another. Roscoe seems to at least know him well enough to be surprised when he doesn't stick around for theatrics.   Raizkeldinhera and Tifsenmyurh or Rascal and Tif - Two other lucky ducks that crashed one of his precious Sky Whales. Tif was captured but Rascal's escape infuriated him, and for awhile he seemed to make it his personal mission to catch her- which he did, eventually. Then she escaped again. He caught her even after she shifted to her true form from her human polymorph, though he did not leave his polymorph himself and both Tif and Rascal were shocked to learn he was Tchazzar.   Morgan Marigold - He went toe to toe with the lich in the middle of the Central Capital, and it seems he failed to kill him before Rascal was to safety, causing Marigold retreat. This fight was entirely in his human form, as the narrow streets of the Central Capital is a poor place for a dragon his size to be in if he's trying to keep himself a secret.   Penny - He's aware she's missing and seems to have a vested interest in either getting her back or finding wherever her birth father is. As her father turned out to be the son of Asmodeus this can't be anything good.   Comet - A runty red dragon wyrmling abducted from the Northern Province and handed over to Tchazzar. He made an attempt to adopt her as his daughter, taking her in to his home and having her spend time with Anabelle. Despite Anabelle becoming good friends with the wyrmling his attempts didn't stick and Comet escaped at her earliest opportunity.

Family Ties

Living:

Anabelle Sebastol - His only living daughter, who appears to be human. That didn't seem to bother him and he loves her just like any of his children he had before the Chromatic Extermination, if not cherishing her even more dearly since she is his only child. He is hopeful that Anabelle will become something better than himself and her mother, maybe because the life he would wish on a dragon isn't one he'd wish on a human. Her mother is the human woman Caroline Sebastol, and since he has no last name Anabelle just has her mother's.   Caroline Sebastol - The two are not currently married, but he is in to her enough that she should be counted among family ties.

Deceased:

Rauthstokh - The father of Tchazzar, who was also an infamous and large red wyrm that died from old age. This places Tchazzar's birth at least as far back as 624 ACW, Rauthstokh's possible year of death.   Queen Malystryx and many more - Tchazzar had many children with two different mates long before Dryad's Gold. They were all pure red dragons however, as well as his children getting in to all sorts of nonsense, so they were often slain when they made a bad move and were among the most viciously targeted during the Chromatic Extermination. He knows he has no other children left from this time of his life.   Casdirektiheil - Tchazzar's first mate, with whom he had the majority of his nests. They came together frequently for nesting duty and courted each other cordially, but it was a very material and courtly romance, and they closely followed the draconic proverb "love is best fed by borders." She was around the same age he was when they first paired, but she didn't have his insanely long lifespan and eventually she died of old age.   Raiskivohlheilla - A half-dragon, half-elf grand daughter from an elven woman and one of Tchazzar's sons. She was responsible for Tchazzar escaping the Shadowfell after nearly a century of imprisonment. Initially Tchazzar was proud to see what was becoming of his bloodline and doted on her. She had ulterior motives however, and when it was discovered she wanted to use her grandfather's soul to become a full blooded dragon of great power he struck her down indiscriminately.   Ozelnehfuella - Tchazzar's second mate whom he loved dearly. Ozelnehfuella was only two hundred years or so beyond being an adult so she didn't compare in size or power, but she was very bright and won his heart by impressing him with her wit and presenting him with magical items she stole- mainly from the hoards of other dragons- because she knew he couldn't use magic himself. While originally courting him for status she did fall just as in love. Rather than stay apart like with his first mate they remained together in a shared lair and even shared their hoard.

Religious Views

He claimed to work in the name of the Jaws of Tiamat and invoked the name of Garyx as well as claimed deification himself. If this is true or not is unknown, but he did kill a Goddess. According to a red wyrmling known as Comet (who was privy to many conversations) he has devoured the soul of Garyx, essentially taking his place in the pantheon.

Social Aptitude

While his ego is obnoxiously massive he is an exceptionally confident and charismatic man or dragon, depending on the day, and he has a love for social drama to keep things interesting. He sees everyone around him as either a toy or an insect however, and doesn't really try to hide that.

Speech

Tchazzar speaks with that tone that screams "I know I'm better than you." He has a tendency to refer to creatures that survive his wrath as lucky ducks and seems to take special joy in shit talking these types in particular.
