The Cobalt College
This is a highly esteemed and primarily elven school that spans back a long, long time as many highly esteemed and primarily elven things do.
The Cobalt College are known for being hyper-meticulous record keepers, and protectors of true history. Very literally. There are always people who would do anything from wave money to murder in order to try and change history to better suit their side or viewpoint. NO record of the Cobalt College is viewed without a monk present. Yes, they aren't just scholars, they're monks. Their eye for detail is absurd, to the point of making them very, very deadly.
The Cobalt College operates in various chapters, where entire redundant libraries are kept in the Cobalt Vault. If one chapter were to burn, no history within its walls would truly be lost. The fact it was founded in the Northern Province and and that it seems to have mostly elven membership make some people doubtful of the true credibility of their desire to keep unbiased records of historical events.
Shortly after Dryad's Gold they were casting Speak With Dead on intact enough corpses without even identifying who they were and seeking familial permissions first. Their (very true) claim was that the corpses were unrecognizable to begin with. Despite the hell that rained on them for decades after they still managed to obtain hundreds of brief accounts about the final days of Dryad's Gold and do still have them in the archives.
Structure
Head Archivists oversee entire chapters. This largely involves assignment and PR and is often seen as a sort of working retirement, as Head Archivists are typically selected from the most active portions of their chapter. Decisions for the college as a whole are made by unanimous decision among all Head Archivists in all chapters or they're not made at all. You can imagine change is slow to happen.
Archivists oversee a single portion of a particular chapter. There are usually two to each station. Portions are less by subject and more by time archived, with the same Archivists overseeing multiple centuries at times. When new information is brought in it is up to the Archivists to be the ones to copy and distribute this to the other chapters. The more recent the time the more the Archivists are respected based on how much new information they are expect to keep up with. Sometimes it is too much for two people to handle, usually during anything with international involvement, and ranks must bleed together but they try very, very hard to avoid a too many cooks scenario. When necessary new Head Archivists are selected from among their ranks.
Monks are the majority of the college's ranks. They are the ones who gather stories, information, snippets, books, scrolls, anything you can think of, and submit things for archival. Many specialize in certain fields of study and leave the historical relevance up to the Archivists to resolve. For the historical pieces brought in that are not replicable there are multiple artists expected to chart out every detail so the images can be cross-referenced in the future, hoping that one artists will catch anothers' mistakes. They also serve as the librarians, escorts, and guardians of the libraries within the chapters, and as teachers to the students.
Students are exactly what it says on the tin. They often begin studying under the monks at a young age. Students take care of things like washing, supply organization, and other jobs that frankly no one wants to do, but in return they are provided a unique and highly respected education and learn how to whoop ass.
