Yipplewood
Summary: A rock gnome village at the base of the mountain. They love inventing are keen on radio expansion in the area.
Further detail: The residents have collectively built up a bunch of radio equipment and seem to be expanding from Yipplewood both up the mountain and further down the road. They're trying to make radio contact possible even in more extreme weather which can be important with such poor roads leading to a place as important as the capital. That's not all they do however! For such a small town there is a lot of innovation happening. Almost everyone here seems to be a creator in some capacity, and that often means they're engineers. They buy a lot of strange objects and scrap from passers-by, including parts from broken equipment that they don't want to lug through the mountains. All of this tends to go toward invention.
- Installation of radio equipment appeared to be pro bono from an outsider's view. If there was funding not provided by the town it is currently unknown. Their enthusiasm for the work would make it unsurprising if that is so.
- The gnomes of Yipplewood experience a lot of good luck which they attribute to a curious guardian they make regular tribute to at a small shrine in the woods. This shrine has existed since long before the industrial revolution of the last century but it seems the spirit that tends it has kept up with the times. Offerings disappear and are replaced with useful materials, often specifically needed ones.
- In Saskus of 4198 a partially successful test of new motorized technology was witnessed in the town by a party of adventurers. These would soon be known as motorbikes, and eventually motorcycles. There are downsides to these motorized vehicles that things such as cars and trucks do not have, for instance a great deal more noise, less safety, and more skill being required.
