Direwolves
Direwolves are a race of especially large wolves commonly found in the northernmost regions of Imera, most notably Orragh, Ulfgard, and some of the valleys of the Frostridge Mountains. While some have managed to domesticate these beasts in small numbers, the Direwolves remain beasts of the wild, with their howls being a regular sound in the remote north.

Ecology and Habitats
Direwolves are most commonly found in the forests, valleys, and grasslands of northern Imera.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Direwolves are carnivorous.
Biological Cycle
Direwolves remain active during the winter season, thanks to their thick winter coats and the heavy feeding they did in the fall in preparation, though they will focus on conserving energy while hunting as best as they can. New pups are born in the spring, and often start learning to hunt during the summer.
Additional Information
Social Structure
Like their wolf relatives, Direwolves live in packs that resemble family units, consisting of a breeding pair and their offspring, and occasionally extended relatives.
Domestication
While Direwolves largely remain beasts of the wilds, a number of them have been domesticated, mainly by the Orcs. It's generally recommended that Direwolves are domesticated as young as possible, so they will bond quicker and easier with their new masters (this is often accomplished through breeding in captivity, or capturing in the wild). Once fully domesticated, a Direwolf will remain loyal to its master, so long as they are fed and properly cared for.
Uses, Products & Exploitation
Domesticated Direwolves are used as guard dogs, hunting dogs, and mounts. Wild Direwolves are often hunted for their meat and pelts.
