Frost Bear

The Frost Bears are a race of large bears found throughout the Northern Wastes and the northern parts of Ordan. They are considered the apex predator of the Northern Wastes, and one of the few creatures capable of surviving in this vast stretch of ice and snow covering the Imeran northern coast.

Frost Bears resemble large polar bears.

Frost Bears give birth to live young, with cubs taking between nine to nine-and-a-half months to fully gestate.

Frost Bears prefer to live in cold, Arctic areas, though some have been seen in Taiga regions as well.

While they are capable of handling the cold of their arctic home, Frost Bears will often go into states of hibernation from time to time, particularly during the winter months when the temperatures drop especially low.

Domestication

While domestication of Frost Bears is largely avoided, mainly due to how temperamental they can be, some individuals have been brave enough, foolish enough, or both to attempt to tame one of these beasts. The only real chance one has at taming such a beast successfully is if they've raised them from a cub. Their naturally aggressive nature makes them unsuitable for use as working animals though, so they're often used as either guard animals or (among the especially brave) mounts.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

While they are generally avoided due to their strength and temperament, Frost Bears are sometimes hunted if they've been menacing an area to long, with successful hunters making use of their meat for food, and their pelts for clothing, blankets, and tents to keep warm.

Frost Bears are primarily found in the Northern Wastes, but some have also made their homes in the colder northern reaches of Ordan.
