Ithyrian Beacons (If-FEER-ee-Ahn)
Found scattered throughout the continent Imera, the Ithyrian Beacons remain one of the most enduring remnants of the ancient mage empire of Ithyria. Constructed around the time Ithyria truly became an empire, these towers allowed for communication and warning across great distances, aiding greatly in maintaining order and safety across the empires vast territories. While many of these towers have long since fallen into ruin, a number of them still remain in use by the various Elven kingdoms that succeeded Ithyria, and they serve as impressive landmarks for any travellers passing through Elven territory.
Purpose / Function
While the Ithyrian Empire still existed, the beacons were constructed in order to allow for communication across the vast distances their territories covered, including providing advanced warning in the event of an invasion or disaster. While the few still functioning beacons that remain are still used for this purpose, travellers passing through Elf territory also use them as landmarks while travelling.
Alterations
The architecture of the beacons has remained unchanged since their construction, with any alterations done to them being restricted to restoration of architectural elements (like stairs and entryways). Due to the millennia that have passed since the fall of Ithyria, as well as the chaotic events that surrounded it, a number of beacons have fallen into various states of ruin.
Architecture
The beacons are constructed entirely from white stone, with decorative elements of gold and silver along their edges and entryways, and are built in the graceful style typical of Elven architecture.
Tourism
The Ithyrian Beacons are a popular destination for travellers passing through the Elven kingdoms, and are frequently used as landmarks to aid in travel.
