Pride Guard
As an elite division of the Myrian military, the Pride Guard serve as the personal guard of the King/Queen and their family, as well as security for the palace. Thanks to their ties to the royalty, as well as their reputation for producing some of the finest knights in Myrell, the Pride Guard have earned a place of respect among the people of Myrell, a reputation that still holds strong today.
Composition
Manpower
The Pride Guard number around 70 soldiers, with 12-15 of them being assigned to protect members of the royalty at a time.
Equipment
The Pride Guard are equipped with high quality Mithryl plate armour. The helmet is designed to resemble a stylised lion head, complete with a mane coming out of the back, and faulds made of blue cloth over chainmail bearing the standard of Myrell reaching down to just past the knees hang from the waist.
Weaponry
All knights of the Pride Guard are trained to fight with sword and shield as their primary weapons, though beyond that, they are free to use any other weapons they please. Like their armour, the weapons of the Pride Guard are made from Mithryl.
Vehicles
While they spend most of their time on foot, members of the Pride Guard are also trained to in the art of riding and fighting from horseback.
Structure
When escorting members of the royalty or other important individuals, the Pride Guard operate in units of 12-15, with the most experienced among them taking charge.
Tactics
The Pride Guard are trained to fight together as a unit, with members sticking close to one another to cover each others weaknesses (flanks, blind-spots, etc). When a threat is detected while escorting an important individual(s), the Pride Guard will form a shield wall with weapons drawn around the individual.
Training
All knights of the Pride Guard are required to undergo regular training in a variety of weapons, cavalry tactics, and squad tactics.
Logistics
Recruitment
Anyone may apply to be recruited into the Pride Guard, though candidates are given more consideration for recruitment based on prior military experience and trustworthiness. While the membership of the Pride Guard has historically been predominantly human, Myrellian citizens of all races have begun appearing among their ranks in more recent times.
