Runic (Roo-nick)

Runic is the name given to the language spoken by the Titans, the ancient ancestors of the Giants and Giantkin. Having been created from the world itself (according to legend), the Titans were able to "speak the language of the earth", altering aspects of the world using words and phrases that spoke to its very essence (hence the alternative name for Runic, the "World-Tongue). Through their words, the Titans had shaped much of the physical world, and even tried to use the power of their language to usurp the Prime Dragons, using weapons and armour they'd spoken into existence, and engraved with words meant to bring out their full strength. Despite their strength, the war would end with the total destruction of the Titans, and the Runic language became lost to the ages with them.
Despite largely fading into obscurity, the Runic language has still managed to influence the world in some way, shape or form. The Giants, descendants of the Titans, speak a variant of the language that's even named for them, though it lacks the magical qualities of the original Runic language. Runic has also influenced the languages of the Dwarves and Orcs, though they are considered to be their own distinct languages despite their common roots. But what the Runic language is best known for is it's role in the creation of magic as it's known today. Across the world, scholars have found ruins engraved with the ancient letters of the Runic language, still brimming with magic, and each discovery has deepened mortalkinds understanding of magic further and further. Many scholars consider Runic Magic to be the progenitor of the Enchantment school of magic, and there are still those who practice Runic Magic even today.
