Warding Amulets

As their name implies, Warding Amulets are small magic items that are designed to protect their wearers from harmful magical effects. Among the various enchanted items found throughout Taeva, these amulets are considered to be the most common and widespread one might come across, owing to the relative ease of constructing them, as well as their portability, accessability, and ease of use. While these amulets do come with some drawbacks (namely their inability to hold multiple warding runes without them disrupting one another, neccessitating the existence of multiple different types of Warding Amulets, as well as the fact that they only mitigate the damage done by harmful magics rather than blocking it outright), they remain a welcome commodity among those who expect to deal with magical hazards, including hostile mages, environmental magical effects, and traps made using magic.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

Warding Amulets are imbued with runes of warding, with the specific runes used in their creation affecting the type of magic they protect against. Depending on the material and specific runes used, an amulet can only hold so many runes before they begin to interfere with each others protective abilities, hence the varying levels of strength between amulets.

Manufacturing process

First the amulet itself must be forged, followed by the engraving of the neccessary warding runes.

Significance

While they do not completely negate the effects of harmful magics, Warding Amulets are nonetheless considered valuable for mitigating these effects (the effectiveness depending largely on the material and runes used in their construction), and have often been the difference between life and death for their owners.
