Areqim, the most arid and inland of Tifwa Akn's three subregions, is home to the national capital, Nurthq. Its vast expanses of desolate desert are occasionally broken up by small, hardy communities that eke out a living in this harsh environment. Despite the hardship, Areqim is known for its people's steadfast spirit and survivalist skills. Areqim is also known as the birthplace of Gurit'al the Bold, a famous Ghūd folk hero renowned for his tales of valor in the face of overwhelming odds.
