Dark Gravity

There is a principle written into the Universe that especially heinous actions beget even worse ones: undertaking evil adds to one's Shadow, and makes it more difficult to avoid the dark path. For some reason, the same does not hold true of good actions.   Being a psychopath, Khajuro, Master of The Exiled Tradition, framed moral philosophy differently than most others: he regarded this aspect of the world as coldly and analytically as any other his mind considered. Still, as Dark Gravity is indeed a feature of the world, he wished to account for how and why it works as it does.   His logic went as follows: If Dark Gravity makes certain actions (which he viewed impartially but which most would deem “evil”) “easier”, then this must be the sort of behaviour the Universe wants to encourage. It is more natural to act in accordance with the way things are than to fight against them, and Nature is inherently good. Thus, Nature is, as the masses would have it, “Evil”, and so Evil is Good. The Master connected this insight to his theories on Time: Evil and disorder are most represented by killing, and killing living beings releases Time back to the Universe. Why would the Universe seek to reclaim its Life? If creating Life came at such a cost, why wouldn't it have simply withheld from doing so in the first place? Because in a timeless state, the Universe did not know feeling, such as pain or fear, but in the surge of awareness it received from creating Life, it became instinctively self-preserving. It realized its own mortality and scrambled to reclaim Time however it could. And so, living things are encouraged to be killers in the image of the thing that created it: the Universe is the ultimate killer.   The Hex often goes beyond Khajuro's writings on Dark Gravity to say that Khajuro himself instilled this principle into the Universe. What is clear is that all of his spells carry a Dark Gravity penalty. Their effects are “evil” which incites whatever cost may be typical of the action they bring about, but Khajuro also found ways to stimulate the inherent tendency of Dark Gravity, and so more Dark Gravity is accrued through using his magic than through any other means. The Hex and others suspect that each use of his magic benefits him in some way, another reason why his magic is largely banned.
