Isand Keshij
Isand Keshij, the celebrated playwright of Sabellis, hails from a long line of scribes and educators, his family having served in the Parliament of Leaves for generations. Growing up amidst the grandeur of the capital city of Draksineon, he was exposed early on to the dynamic exchange of ideas, stories, and debates that occurred within the Parliament. These experiences formed the seed of his love for storytelling.
Isander's early education was typical for the offspring of such a prestigious family. However, the young boy was captivated more by the lively tales his grandmother shared, stories steeped in the traditions and folklore of their people, than by his formal education. He was particularly fascinated by the religious tales and morality plays performed during the festivals, which made a deep impression on him. As Isander grew older, he found his passion was not in politics like his forefathers but in literature and drama. He decided to break from the traditional career path of his family to pursue his love for storytelling. After studying under some of the greatest minds of Sabellis, he took to playwriting with an enthusiasm that quickly attracted attention.
His plays are a mix of the traditional and the daringly innovative. He incorporates elements from the moral and mystery plays he loved as a child, but infuses them with his observations of the politics and social dynamics he witnessed growing up in the heart of Draksineon. His dramas are filled with thinly veiled critiques of the nobility and the Church, drawing parallels with biblical stories or moral tales.
Despite—or perhaps because of—their subversive undertones, Isander's plays have become extremely popular among the citizens of Sabellis, and his fame has begun to spread throughout Draksineon. His works are now eagerly anticipated events, with people flocking from all over to see them performed. Though a celebrated figure, Isander remains a controversial one. His sharp critiques have earned him both admirers and detractors, making him a divisive figure within the city's social and political circles. Yet Isander, ever the dedicated artist, remains unperturbed. For him, his art is a way to comment on the world he sees, stirring the minds and hearts of his audience, making them question and see their world in a new light.
