The Law of Fair Return

Although heavily contextualized within the strictures laid out by the Tith Rehei, The Law of Fair Return is in fact an innovation of the Middle Empires (1112-707) of the Drakoya, developed a hundred years or less after The Plague Years which saw the continent of Rela ravaged by magical illness. Known also as the Ploughman's Law, The Law of Fair Return simply states that the ends magic is used for are bound to the fate of the user in such a way as to revisit their consequences upon them manyfold. One reaps what one sows, in other words.   The original documents that expand on Fair Return are largely written in a poetic tone, although the Appendices contain the attempts of later commentators to demonstrate how the consequences of spellcasting are exactly enacted by the structure of Fate. Kabba-Hei, the principal language of Aurimbic spells, is employed in service of this project. Across time, the dynamics of these arguments have been thought to be of scholarly interest in the main. Generations of Apprentices, however, have had the moral impact of the Law drummed into them from the very beginning of their training: Don't cast dark magic. It will seriously mess you up.
