The Loraeus

The Loraeus is an esteemed institution in Taharjin’s Flame, serving as both the spiritual and intellectual heart of The Berythian Tradition and as a center of rigorous magical training and philosophical study. Located in Sabellis City), the Loraeus holds great cultural and academic importance within Draksineon. This institution is organized around an ancient structure with soaring marble halls and an expansive library, filled with rare texts and enchanted scrolls that span centuries of magical knowledge. The Loraeus attracts not only local adepts but also visiting scholars and dignitaries from across the continent, marking it as a hub for magical theory, debate, and innovation.   The Loraeus derives its name from the original school of The Sage, Beryth, the Tradition's founder, although the original was not an enclosed structure but rather, an outdoor meeting area where the Master's disciples would gather to ask questions and gain in wisdom at his feet. Very little is known about its organization as the subject was not a prominent focus of The Dialogues, the oldest collection of writings entailing conversations between Beryth and his students.   Students within the Loraeus engage in a grueling journey of self-discovery and mastery, studying under dedicated mentors and refining their talents through focused branches known as Columns, each aligned with an elemental or philosophical focus within Berythian magic. Aspiring mages navigate this world of intense study and social hierarchy, balancing their personal ambitions with the demands of the Tradition. Admittance is typically considered once each year, through a formal process, although word of mouth and ad hoc entry does play a role as well, often bringing in the best and brightest talents whose Gifts are simply too great to ignore.   While the Loraeus is known for its emphasis on theoretical purity, it has also quietly adapted to the shifting tides of magical and political influence in Draksineon. It remains an essential voice within the broader framework of The Council of Landezon, influencing policies that shape the magical community. Here, the Loraeus continues to embody its founding mission: not only as a seat of profound elemental and philosophical study but as a crucible where the sharpest minds in Berythian magic are forged, each preserving and evolving the Tradition’s legacy in a world where boundaries of magic are constantly reexamined.
