Leanders report #2 - Collection of Orcish poetry

Greetings once more my dear reader.   Unlike last time, I do not have a central theme for this treatise and I do hope you will forgive me for that. For today I want to start a collection. During my time with the Longfangs I often sat with them around the hearth and listened to their stories. In the later evening hours especially, they would get out their drums and other instruments if they so fancied and would entertain each other with song and dance.   I have heard many a song during this time and I figure it is only right to balance the scales and share them with others, like they have been shared with me. The result is this document, in which I will gather all forms of poetry, as I recall them. I will try to expand this article whenever I have the time and at the same time I hope to categorise the words I write down as well, so that you can easily find and recover articles at a later point if you so please.   I want to divide this article into two main categories, which divide the poetry by form: First are of course the songs and second there are non-sung poems.

Songs

Herein are the collected songs I heard from the Longfang. I ordered them first by how common they were and second by alphabetic title. Please do forgive me for not noting down the melodies as well, I unfortunately do not posses the necessary musical skills to do so.

Common Songs

Frôru and Tebla

Frôru went out to hunt him some boar.
Oh Frôru, the old fool!
And Frôru he found himself some fresh prints.
Oh Frôru, the poor fool!
As he followed them, no matter the path,
Oh Frôru, the dumb fool!
He soon came to see, he no longer knew
Oh Frôru, the lost fool!
The way back home, he was all alone
Oh, Oh Frôru, the sad fool!

He now was the prey of the devils boar:
Oh Tebla, cunning boar!
Who laid out a trap and soon struck him down:
Oh Tebla, cruel boar!
And then cut him up to feast on his flesh:
Oh Tebla, hungry boar!
He ate him right there, and some more elsewhere:
Oh Tebla, mighty boar!

Frôru, oh Frôru, don't wander out alone,
For you will be found by Tebla and so,
The boar'll strike you down,
take your hunters crown,
And nelsewhere will you go!

Uncommon Songs

Sunrise over the lonely peak

Far behind the red glow dims.
Up below the white moon falls.
Tai'San and Rinushka, bid the night farewell.
Then at last, the shine of warmth,
slowly creeps up and casts red
upon the rock, upon the mountain stone.

Last watch ends, it's time to sleep,
wake the tribe and then at last
fall into your dreams.

Marching Song

March on! March on! To glory or disgrace!
March on! March on! You would do well to know your place!
March on! Now March. Your Chief commands you so.
Now March! March on. Wherever we may go,
We know the path is long and hard,
We know not all will here return,
We know the furnace needs to churn
out spoils of war and blade and spear,
So go march on and show no fear.

We know the en'mies horde is large,
We know the path is long and hard:
So march!

The Tall Redbloods Wander

Walking the land that they deem home
so hopeful for their life.
The Other take their heart and roam,
experience and write their tomes,
to document their strife.

They do not know,
Tis not their home,
no matter where and how they roam,
their trespassing in our biome,
wakes monsters down below:

Poems

As I did with the songs above, poems too are ordered first by how common they are and then alphabetically.

Common Poems

Fire at Lor'San

Down the wind pushed.
The flames it fanned with a roar;
And with their approach we heard hushed
Voices crying out more.

The enemy had been repelled,
the silver devils been slain.
But in their retreat they had left us
nothing but suffering and pain

The flames rose higher and higher
and licked at the sacred doors.

As we shaved off our manes,
We spoke our goodbyes at the pyre,
felt the heat pierce into our pores,
And we walked into the flames

Uncommon Poems

Darkness over Barrows

Cowered in fear, we sit round the flame
And darkness falls over barrows.
Slowly creeps cold in from the night
And darkness falls over barrows.
Never before, we dared go to fight
The monsters that roam in the barrows.
Now we are lost and none are to blame,
As darkness it seeps out the barrows.

A poem of the Orcs of the Norian Mountains warning of the Osylanian Nekropolis

And with this, the collection is finished... for now. I plan on returning here to note down more poems, so if you would like to read more when I have it available, why not stick around for it?

I especially like the boar song!

Thank you! I will eventually make an article about the Boar, because it is actually a very involved character in this worlds lore.

Yours truly, Nino.

That boar song sure seems like something that the Orcs would sing! :) Pretty nice poems as well. My only remark would be a bit of formatting as the space to the right is kinda unused right now :)

Feel free to check my new world Terra Occidentalis if you want to see what I am up to!

Thanks for your praise :) The formatting is a good point and I have edited the poems to make better use of the page until I write more poems later and can split them without leaving large empty spaces! Thanks for the suggestion as well!

Yours truly, Nino.
