The Aludel Legion

Composition

Manpower

The Aludel legion has 20,000 soldiers spread across Aludel with about 5000 in reserve in Nordgurd.

Equipment

The average Legion Guard is equipped with very little more than their weapons as other equipment is dealt with by other formations.

Weaponry

Each Legion Guard is equipped with a circular light shield, a short sword, a spear and a light crossbow.. They wear studded leather or scale mail armor and usually have a very simple, open-face helmet.

Vehicles

Each company generally trails one or two supply wagons behind them, but otherwise the Legion is forced to move on foot unless speed is absolutely imperative.
Company commanders and other individuals in charge are given horses in order to move quickly through the ranks and see more easily over the battlefield.

Structure

The Legion is composed of two battalions, each battalion with about 10,000 soldiers. Aludel has not had need to amass a full battalion of Legion Guard in its history.
Each battalion is made up of 2 companies containing 5000 soldiers.
Companies are split into 10 regiments of 500 soldiers each.
Regiments break down into platoons of 100 soldiers.
Platoons are made up of squads of 10.

Tactics

The Legion's main tactic is to line up a shield wall facing the enemy and fire crossbow bolts past the shields into the enemy until the lines meet.

Training

Legion guards spend a year training all over Aludel in different conditions.

Logistics

Recruitment

The Legion only recruits Humans or Half-Elves as Cretion believes it could be dangerous to recruit people of other races who may have other allegiances.

History

The Aludel Legion was founded by Cretion within five years of the passing of Emperor Barros and the declaring of the Dragonborn as treasonous. The forces of Ogralon had started encroaching on Aludel's borders when the news of The Emperor's death reached them. Cretion managed to rally a force of dedicated soldiers larger than any army since the Battle of Aludel and push back the approching hordes of Ogralon. Since then, Aludel's forces have dedicated themselves to the defense of the border.
Recently, Ogralons forces have been getting more aggressive and, in an attempt to preemptively strike at Ogralon's morale, Cretion declared Martial Law and rallied half of the Legion to the Autumnfield Garrison, scattering the rest among Aludel's cities and towns. So far, no more than large skirmishes have taken place on the border, but Ogralons forces grow larger everyday.
