Kaylin Wind, Grannia, and Maddison defeat an evil Druid cult and save Heartbreaker from a terrible fate.
At first arriving with a fairly large party of adventurers, Kaylin, Grannia, and Maddison, with the help of Madam and her Trombone, went into town on their own after a less than cordial interaction with Heartbreaker , a local Goliath who they discovered drinking blood in the tavern. After asking around, and getting a vague but honest answer from a cat, the group decided to go speak with the local Druid, Carac. They found him sleeping in his compost filled grove and immediately began drilling him with questions. Annoyed at their intrusion, but requiring aid none the less, Carac obliged them with a story about a group of Druids who were trying to kidnap and/or harm him in some way. Intent on figuring out what was going on (and convinced that Carac was not telling them the whole truth) the group headed to where the Druids had made camp: a small and ruined watchtower. There they met with the leader of the Druid group who claimed that Carac had stolen a sacred totem from their tribe, and murdered one of their members on his way out. He told them to bring him Carac by the next morning or he would be going in and taking him with his people. Outraged at being lied to the group returned to Carac who promptly told them that yes, he had killed someone, but no he did not steal anything. The group deliberated for a while before they let Carac go, however they followed him to the local temple and discovered him snooping around. After a brief investigation they discovered the missing totem in a hidden alcove. Once again, it seemed, Carac had lied to them. They buried the totem in a place only they would know and went to confront Carac once again. This time they were thorough and Carac confessed to the killing and the theft but explained that it was because the other Druids were evil and he didn't want them to have such a sacred object. With Carac's back and forth and the threat of the deadline looming over them the group decided to wait and see what happened. The next day they hid themselves near the front gate and waited while Carac confronted the other druids. After a brief discussion, Carac gave himself up willingly and walked away. The group briefly spoke to the Druid's leader and lied to him about the location of the totem before running after Carac. When they caught up to Carac and his posse dialogue quickly turned to a fight. Maddison was nearly taken out of commission but the party managed to kill one of the druids and scare the other one off. They confronted Carac a final time, asking him for the full story and he finally obliged. Carac had joined up with the Druids that were after him because he heard they had the totem. After discovering their evil intents he attempted to steal the totem but killed one of their members, a weak vampire, who tracked Carac back to Mudwall. When Carac confronted the vampire Heartbreaker ended up caught in the crossfire and was bitten, but the vampire was destroyed. Carac intends to use the totem to cure Heartbreaker. With the death of one druid and another running back to the others to tell what happened the party rested for the night but hurried back to town the next morning, Carac going on ahead to meet with Heartbreaker and her husband Sauriv, a Gold scaled Dragonborn. The party managed to retrieve the totem silently but when they attempted to reach Heartbreaker's house the Druids, who had just entered the town, appeared to have spotted them. The Party hurried to Heartbreaker's house and met back up with Carac who had begun a ritual. However, the ritual was interrupted midway through as the Druids attacked! A brief fight ensued and the party was victorious, though Carac perish at the hand of the lead druids Thunderwave spell. Collecting themselves after the fight, the party took a moment to mourn Carac as they, and the rest of Mudwall, buried his body. The bodies of the attacking druids were burned and their magical weapons taken. Grannia, now owner of the totem, remembering what she could of Carac's ritual began it again and managed to call forth an Avatar of Haldia who healed Heartbreaker in exchange for drops of the Goliath's blood and the souls of the Druids slain in combat. With Heartbreaker healed the town celebrated and the adventurers caroused all night as the newly dubbed Heroes of Mudwall. In the morning, after some discussion with Sauriv and Heartbreaker, the party bade farewell to the small town and travelled east, intent on reaching Nordgurd. Needing to replenish their supplies and refresh themselves after a week of walking, the adventurers stop in Stormside. Now they stand on the sheer cliffs above the docks and stare out at the ocean, awaiting their next adventure.
