Dagult Neverember

Lord Protector Dagult Neverember (a.k.a. Lord Pretender)

Lord Protector of Neverwinter from 1455DR until his death in 1501DR. He took charge of the city in the chaotic aftermath of Mt. Hotenow's eruption, which laid waste to a huge section of the city and caused many Deaths. Dagult was already Open Lord of Waterdeep at this point, having been elected the year prior. While most citizens of Neverwinter were thankful for the financial and strategic assistance he provided, some resented a rich outsider becoming defacto ruler of the city. Given no members of the royal family were left alive to take the Neverwinter throne and the city was so heavily reliant on Neverember and his fortune there was little choice but to except his stewardship. Dagult made a public proclomation that he would not declare himself King and instead would be Lord Protector, ready to hand back the seat of power should an heir make themselves known. 
As a member of The Lord’s Alliance and a devout follower of Helm he made it his duty to return peace and safety to the Sword Coast. After the last great Orc invasion in 1439DR in which a young Dagult fought and forged his reputation, the almost century long calamity that was the Spellplague, and the eruption of Hotenow his city guard managed to finally bring some calmn to the area by the early 1480's.
After making his permanent home in Neverwinter in 1480DR his focus on Waterdeep slipped. More and more responability was delegated to The Masked Lords until they eventually voted to remove Neverember and replace him with Laeral Silverhand. Despite both cities being commited members of The Lord’s Alliance this lead to a some what strained relationship for the first time in Centuries.
His death in the early days of 1501 DR has left a power vaccum and no one is sure who will fill it. His son Renaer was once seen as a potential successor but in recent years has gained a reputation as a drunkard and geneal mischief maker who would be unable to fill his fathers shoes.
