Neofelis Panthera Tsavo

The lions of Tsavo are an oddity. Maneless and prone to be maneaters, the lions of Tsavo have become legendary.   With the return of magic in 2011 the lions gained the ability to cause fear in the prey that they hunted. The fear would cause the prey to run until exhausted which then allowed the lions an easier catch. This followed with gaining the chameleon skin ability through a surge effect when Halley's Comet returned in 2061.   * That fear thing and camouflage skin stuff made it damn hard to catch a pair for a researcher. Stumpy 09/07/2086   * Yeah those cats really disliked the taste of your chrome. The Boy Debois 10/07/2086   Having grown accustomed to consuming human flesh the lions of Tsavo learned to use their new awakened abilities to their advantage. If a group of vengeful tribesmen came to hunt them, a roar with the fear aura would send them running to which they if having numbers would give chase or take advantage of a slower hunter. With chameleon skin they learned to stalk more patiently, to move slower at all times, to be less playful as a typical lion might do within the pride. This to allow their new skins to blend into which ever background they found themselves in at the time.   It is most dangerous for those who harvest tree gum and resin from the Myrrh trees. Persons engaged in this activity must travel with at least one other and be armed or carry a burning torch. Even though the lions have new magic abilities they still have a primal fear of fire themselves.   Other prey includes smaller elephants, giraffe, gazelle, klipspringer, kudu, warthog, buffalo and zebra when they can. Of noteworthy interest is that of naturalists and para-animal researchers who study the differences between the lions and prey that have also developed magical abilities as well as those that also have surged during Halley's Comet.    Additionally there are unconfirmed reports of some tribal witch doctors being able to communicate with the awakened animals of the region, however, this is unconfirmed at this time.
