Dilladon
Will the reintroduction of magic, new hybrid creatures began to appear. A common animal in the southwestern region, and Texas in particular, is the armadillo. Armadillos are generally fairly peaceful creatures with rather cute faces if you stop to really look at them. Dillodons are believed to be related to armadillos. They have similar features and characteristics. They even eat bugs, small vertebrates, plants, and some fruit, as well as the occasional carrion meal. Neither roll into a ball when threatened [unless they are a South American variety].
Whereas most armadillos are relatively small at around ten pounds, about the size of a small dog, dillodons are larger than the giant armadillo. They weigh in at around a ton and are comparable in size to an elephant. This will raise questions of course about what we said about their eating habits. One must consider that dillodons are no the only creature to have been impacted by magic. As the insects grew in size as well, we are lucky to have the dillodons around to help control the population. Let's just say that your average 'bug zapper' isn't going to deal with an eight inch mosquito!
Like the elephant these creatures are generally passive and mind their own business; however, you are at grave personal risk should you annoy one. They can be a great threat to domestic ground travel during dusk and dawn when they are most active, and their burrows can wreak havoc on a neighborhood, or farm.
These new creatures symbolize the quiet power of persistence and perseverance. Anyone who has ever tried to drive one off can tell you that they will dig in and stand their ground.

Interestingly, like armadillos, they give birth in quads that are all male or female.

Very interesting take on symbolizing power. But a nice way to take care of those pesky 8" mosquitos. I can picture one of these critters waddling along like armadillos do, but…big. It's hard to figure how magic is going to affect things when it arrives (I'm gradually dealing with that in my own world), but this is definitely a good take. One potential issue I see is that small elephants weigh on the order of two tons and big ones get close to eight tons. Armadillos tend to be more compact. Given the mass, I'd expect the size to be closer to that of a horse. But magic can do weird things, so maybe there's something there? Regardless, I like these guys.
When in doubt, I always err on the side of magic. ;) I'm glad you enjoyed them.
