Castellan Emmanuel Darm

Emmanuel Darm is an older Vaasan ranger who looks like he has seen a lot in his nearly 60 years. His long brown hair is turning gray, and he wears the scars of an adventuring life. As Castellan of Darmshall, he weighs every decision fairly and completely before committing either himself or his fortress to a course of action. He relies heavily on his advisor Elessan when considering actions that would affect the Keep.

Personal history

Emmanuel Darm joined the adventuring band known as the Tenblades before his 18th birthday. Vaasan by heritage, Darm's family was one of the wandering clans. Darm was brought up learning how to avoid humanoid bands and raiders, hunt and live off the unforgiving landscape and survive where others couldn't.
When Darm was 17, as his family made their way across their annual route, their luck ran out. They came across a large ogre warband. As the family raised weapons to defend themselves, a large band of adventurers calling themselves "The Nine Blades" crested a far hill and helped engage the ogres. Caught between the Darms and the Nine Blades, the ogres morale broke and they scattered. Emmanuel tracked the ogres for the Nine Blades and over the next few days, they eliminated the warband.
The leader of the Nine Blades, Romas Thunderclap, took a liking to the young ranger and invited him to join the band. They became the Tenblades and ranged across Vaasa fighting humanoids and exploring the ancient ruins.
Soon after Darm joined the Tenblades, they suffered tragedy. Exploring one of the many ruins of Vaasa, they released an imprisoned demon. The dwarven warrior, Farabad Brazzik, and their bard, Ellysit Redfern were killed by the demon. The group retired to Darmshall to recoup.
The Seneschal and Chief Advisor, Elessan, treated them as old friends and after defending the village from a few raids, Romas decided to use the treasures he had gathered to build a grand keep around the village. The villagers responded by selecting him as the new Castellan, with Elessan's guidance. The new Keep was finished in only a few years.
Since that time, Darmshall has fended off several more attacks, and when Zhengyi crushed the rest of Vaasa under his dead fist, Darmshall resisted. The hin rogue, Geddi, left the group several years ago, and all of the older members of the Tenblades have passed on. When Romas finally felt the weight of years, he retired and made Emmanuel Darm the Castellan of Darmshall in DR 1355.
Fifteen years passed until Garath Mistmaster appeared in Darmshall, requesting Emmanuel Darm's help in a "small quest". Elessan advised Darm that it was necessary that he participate. They gathered a small group of more experienced adventurers and promptly disappeared for a few months.
When Darm returned, it was without the Mistmaster, who returned to his own keep of Mistmoor. Darm did bring Moervan, the Mistmaster's newest apprentice to live in Darmshall and help defend the fortress. Since his return, Darm seems more introspective, and he and Elessan seem to be much closer. Some suspect that the two life-long bachelors may have taken their relationship to a more intimate level.
